This is what America and China are doing — building armies of skilled individuals. For Nigeria to compete with these great nations, we must take a page from their playbook. Scott Adams once said, “Every skill you acquire doubles your odds of success.” This is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and our Federal Ministry of Education strategy. That’s why we are aggressively reviving our technical and vocational education and training (TVET) system. We aim to equip young men and women with “life skills” that will enable them to be productive members of their communities, while also improving their employability and career opportunities. TVET is one of the cornerstones of our 6-point agenda to reform our education system. We will be creating opportunities for our young Nigerians both men and women to give them life skills to improve their employability irrespective of their level of education — from basic education to tertiary institutions. A skilled workforce is key to President Tinubu’s vision for the nation. We will also be adding to our TVET curriculum life skills in Renewable Energy (Solar), compressed natural gas (CNG) and mechanised farming to also support PBAT’s agenda of ensuring food security in our country. We are working to build a better nation for the next generation.

Today, I commissioned the Busoga Zonal Presidential Industrial Hub in Jinja City! It is crucial that we revive our commitment to free education in primary and secondary schools. We can’t let school fees hinder our children’s future. Every parish should have access to free education without financial barriers. The NRM's vision was to ensure every child could learn without the burden of fees, and we must return to that principle. I am happy with our training programs at the hub, but we are going to expand them to include motor vehicle engineering and ICT.

Our people deserve quality healthcare regardless of any socioeconomic differences and also that we hold each other accountable. We are working hard to guarantee this through our whole-of-society, whole-of-government, and sector-wide approach, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Bola Ahmed Tinubu Renewed Hope Agenda. It still pains me and a lot of young people that South Africa is not industrialised, yet we have all the means to do so. We continue to export over 70% of our minerals and create jobs in other countries while our own youth remain unemployed. Education is the tool we must use to industrialise properly. We need to invest in specialised schools; in agriculture where land allows, in energy, mining, and artisan training where minerals and infrastructure demand it.
