In Utah (near the Great Salt Lake) there's an amazing light show when a salt dust storm is followed by a snow storm. The salt forms a film on the insulators. When snow comes, it starts to melt which then creates a conducive path creating a huge Jacob's ladder like arc.

The first time I actually learned why they have those hats on electric poles. I used to think it was for aesthetic or rain-related reasons.
