So you might expect that evolution has optimised our immune system, and there won't be much low-hanging fruit for improving this with science. Case in point: Our primate ancestors used to have built-in genetic defence against HIV-like viruses. But at some point, the gene was repurposed to protect against a different virus that posed more of a threat. The good news is that we should expect there to be many opportunities where science can do better than evolution.
