This video gets at something I think a lot of people on the left still refuse to reckon with. You can’t spend years dismissing, lecturing, and sometimes outright attacking Black voters when they don’t vote the way you think they should, then act confused when Black voters aren’t rushing to join your movement. A lot of us remember 2016. We remember how Black voters, especially Black women, were treated for overwhelmingly choosing Hillary Clinton. We remember the attacks on John Lewis. We remember being told we were voting against our own interests because we didn’t choose Bernie. And now the question is: Why hasn’t DSA made bigger inroads with Black voters? Maybe start there. You don’t build solidarity by demanding Black voters fall in line. You build it by actually listening to them.

We are here because people didn't fully understand why their votes counted. Why sitting out elections has consequences, and how voting based on excitement is harmful. Now here we are, with not only a conservative Supreme Court, but a Supreme Court hell-bent on taking away progress. Voting Rights Act ensured that Black people had a voice. That we were represented. The Supreme Court has limited it. This does not mean stop voting. It means that we have to register more people to vote, we have to overwhelm the system. #DemsUnited

Black America is more dependent on welfare and government jobs than any other group, so why is DSA a white college club that can’t sign them up? Blacks are 13% of the population, take 28% of SNAP, and fill 19% of federal jobs. Nonmarital births near 70% drive the poverty that keeps the dependency high. Polls give them HIGHER favorability for SOCIALISM than whites (52% to 31%) so we know the bigger checks already sell.
