Example, here's chubby-me solo benching and failing at a weight that could have killed me. Safety bars allowed me to laugh and not die. It's easy, kids.

I haven't touched my garage gym since february. just been hammering machines in commercial gyms with very little barbell work lately.

We had a rule in college and nfl - if lifting weights you always had a spotter If by yourself, no clips, drop the weight if you get stuck Still follow that rule, I’ve had to drop weights a few times

“I guess you do this if you want to get bigger and stronger, lift heavier and not die but other than that I don’t see the point.” - half the guys in the gym

Could you be built anymore to bench press?…. From a longer armed 6’1” dude

You only quit to show off the safety bars. You had another 10 reps in you!

also, don't use clips when lifting solo, on bench specifically. We learned that one in high school. Always have a bail out to dump weight.

doesn't matter if you're using safety bars as shown here. I think if you're going heavy enough you have to be worry about dumping weights with no clips in an emergency you should have a spotter or safety bars

Never used clips much on bench outside of lifting on the ship underway (and you gotta go a little lighter there to play the pitch and roll dynamics).

I agree. I've had some argue it's riskier. I think people are bad at risk management haha

One of the biggest no-brainers you can do. Insane people lift heavy without them

This is my preferred method to bench. People in commercial gyms absolutely hate it though.

I remember in high school walking in on coach barely squeaking out a 1RM on bench in the gym all alone & I said “coach you knew we were otw, just wait for a spot” & he said “no I had to feel like I would actually die if I didn’t get the weight up” 🤣

The safety bar is the real hero here. How do you decide when to bail versus grind through the rep?

Clint Fiore 🦬 DM for Biz Deals's profile picture

when going heavy like this I usually have a pre-planned amount of reps I'm trying to hit but I'll listen to my body and if I feel I can't do the last I don't attempt, or if I think I have another one in me I'll give it a go. Failure is rare but sometimes, especially on bench, you think you have one more but then mid-rep it's like you hit a wall and the bar just stops.

Safety bars are a lifesaver, but calling it "easy" undersells the courage to push to failure. When do you decide to bail vs. grind through?

Thank you for posting your fitness content. I saw you post your results earlier in the year and something clicked for me. I've been focused on my own fitness journey. Down 55 lbs and still pushing pretty hard!

I've heard multiple stories of people being killed in their home gyms by dropping the bar on their neck and suffocating. Safety bars at a must.
