EXCL: A Rwanda-style plan to remove failed asylum seekers to third countries is being actively cooked up by Labour. The Home Secretary says “live conversations” over return hubs were happening “across Europe, but in other parts of the world as well” as ministers hunt for new ways to ramp...

Couldn’t make these morons up. If they’d kept Rwanda, we’d have had at-least one deterrent. But no, they virtue signalled and let them all in

All the nastiness that Labour portrayed over the Rwanda scheme and now they propose a similar scheme. Hypocrites.

Only a third country option like Rwanda will work. This was the Tory party policy, but NO asylum seeker who crossed the channel by boat could settle in the UK. Big difference. Labour would still let the majority stay

Grotesque hypocrisy @ShabanaMahmood. The fact that a Rwanda style plan is even being considered should be resignation territory. You and the rest of the muppets in the Labour Party grandstanded during the general election on getting rid of it.

I don’t care how they do it, or how ‘embarrassing’ it is for them to do it, we just need this government to get the invaders out.

It’s sensible but just incredible how they can pivot to this after celebrating dumping the Rwanda scheme. So much time and money wasted and I don’t believe they will actually push it through

I wonder if @ShabanaMahmood and colleague @YvetteCooperMP regret scrapping Rwanda on the first day they took power 🤡🤡🤦🏻‍♀️ Especially after the hundreds of millions of pounds already spent on it. Ffs.

So………..like the Conservatives did, and Labour cancelled….

Labour cancelled a scheme ready to go, just based on pure, hateful, dogma! Anyone knows we need a deterrent, we need to make the UK an unattractive place for illegals. #bbcLauraK 'Smash the Gangs' & 'One in one out' were never going to work!

But will they leave the ECHR to make this possible? Sorry, we can't deport Muhammad the convicted criminal because he only likes chicken nuggets from Waitrose..

But @Keir_Starmer whines about it and called it a gimmick. Has @ShabanaMahmood finally realised how angry everyone is and that this problem is only going to get worse? What is the cost to the taxpayer for the two years of inaction?

Overseas hubs to permanently return illegal or failed asylum seekers to their own country - Yes. Overseas hubs to process Asylum claims, then allow them back into the UK - No.

Labour’s talk of third-country return hubs for failed asylum seekers is a neat piece of political stagecraft from the Home Secretary—perfectly timed as a pre-election signal. Red Wall and working-class voters who have watched the small-boats saga drag on for years will almost certainly appreciate the tough-sounding headlines. Once the theatre is stripped away, however, the underlying model is still post-arrival management: people reach UK soil, enter the domestic legal system, and only then does the expensive business of removal or overseas transfer begin. In that limited structural sense it even shares some ground with more ambitious platforms such as Restore Britain’s mass-deportation agenda, which likewise concentrates on enforcement after the fact rather than stopping arrivals from happening in the first place. Letting arrivals touch down first leaves the people-smugglers’ core product intact and keeps the taxpayer-funded hotels, barracks and processing centres sitting in English towns. Approaches that try to take mainland Britain off the destination map entirely—such as routing or processing via the UK Sovereign Base Areas—would, in principle, hit both the incentive and the onshore housing contracts harder. After fourteen years in which the Conservatives never quite solved the Channel problem, and with Reform still stronger on slogans than fully costed operational detail, the political mainstream continues to concentrate on managing the crisis once people are already here rather than designing systems that stop them reaching the mainland in the first place.

Unelected bureaucrat David Cameron explains how we need the Rwanda plan because of Brexit 🤦‍♂️ Anushka Asthana, "Hand on heart. If this had come up when you were PM, would you have gone with this Rwanda policy?" David Cameron, "We had a situation where you could return people directly to France.. People land on a beach in Kent, you take them straight back to France.. You therefore break the model of the people smugglers" Anushka Asthana, "Shouldn't you be trying to get that?" David Cameron, "That's not available at the moment" Anushka Asthana, "Because of Brexit?" David Cameron, "(Yes) Because of the situation we are in (having left the EU)" The UK has participated in the Dublin process since it was inaugurated in 1990. When the UK left the EU, the UK left the Dublin agreement and we no longer have the automatic right to return asylum seekers back to France. So Brexit was to take back control from unelected bureaucrats, and here we have David Cameron an unelected bureaucrat in charge of our foreign policy. And Brexit was about taking control of our borders and asylum seekers, and we've lost the ability to return asylum seekers to France, and instead have to spend over £1,000,000 to send asylum seekers to Rwanda, in a 1 in 1 out policy i.e. for every asylum seeker we send to Rwanda, they send us one of their asylum seekers, so we don't have fewer asylum seekers, we're just shuffling asylum seekers around. Hundreds of millions for a PR campaign to appease racists while there is a cost of living crisis in the UK and millions of Brits living in poverty. Disgraceful.
