"There has long been a principle that congress can legislate in a way to insulate civil servants in the head of independent agencies from political firing. And especially that's an important idea in the face of a president who wants something like a dictatorship, complete control. Now, the court has long had an idea that these independent agencies in particular, are unconstitutional because the executive power is vested in one person, a unitary executive."

But if the president can't effectively supervise his subordinates in the executive branch — if, in other words, he is not in charge — it becomes practically impossible for the president to fulfill his duties under Article II of the Constitution. It also begs the question: who would be in charge? It's not the courts. It's not Congress. It's certainly not the people.”
