The two largest closed AI companies are urging govt to slow down AI development. I agree with those who argue that this is an attempt to slow down their competitors. The real and immediate danger is not AI itself, but AI being controlled and managed by people driven by greed.

There was no benefit. There's nothing out there. "You know, you look at Brook Jackson's study and what it was that she was, you know, that she's tried to present in Texas. That's been thrown out, at least twice now. And you just look at all of the. Everything that's behind it. You know, you mentioned, you know, the ethical side of it. You know, the AMA code of ethics says that a physician is supposed to take care of the patient that's in front of them. Okay? That's your oath. My oath is if you were my patient, I would take care of you. You tell me what your concerns are, you tell me, you know, what your symptoms are, and we come up with a plan. I explain to you what the pros and cons of that are, and then you and I come up with a plan on how to treat you. "And I'm not treating you for your husband or your kids or your neighbors or anybody else. I'm treating you that's in front of you. Okay, that's in front of me. And we come up with a plan. So that's the code of ethics. "There's also a known issue with medicine and the legal system. And the, again, the AMA code of ethics says two things. We know that there is going to be a conflict between ethical and moral medical treatment of people and the law at times. And so as a physician, your duty is to try to do what you can, to do both to take care of your patient and to kind of reconcile the law. "So I did. I went to the state of Utah, I went to the House, I went to some of the Senate subcommittees, I, I was, I testified in some of these committee hearings, to try to get laws changed, mandate laws, mask mandates, Covid mandates, shot mandates. And we were successful. In the state of Utah, we were able to pass laws, that reversed the mask mandates. That made it actually, to some degree, a fineable offense for businesses to require Covid vaccines in order to go to work and to go to school. "And so that was my first step. The second step out of this is that if you cannot change that during the time that you're doing, you are, by ethics and moral values, you are required to take care of your patient in front of you, not to abide by, like you said, to abide by the law. Nobody knows why they do what they do. Nobody thinks about things very deeply in business. That's what I found. I'll give you an example. When we were building our Apple I's in the garage, we knew exactly what they cost. When we got into a factory in the Apple II days, the accounting had this notion of a standard cost, where you'd kind of set a standard cost and at the end of a quarter you'd adjust it with a variance. And I kept asking, well, why do we do this? And the answer was, well, that's just the way it's done. And after about six months of digging into this, what I realized was the reason you do it is because you don't really have good enough controls to know how much it costs. So you guess, and then you fix your guess at the end of the quarter. And the reason you don't know how much it costs is because your information systems aren't good enough. But nobody said it that way. And so later on, when we designed this automated factory for Macintosh, we were able to get rid of a lot of these antiquated concepts and know exactly what something cost to the second. So in business, a lot of things are, I call it folklore. They're done because they were done yesterday and the day before. And so what that means is if you're willing to sort of ask a lot of questions and think about things and work really hard, you can learn business pretty fast. It's not the hardest thing in the world. It's not rocket science. It's not rocket science."

And I love- I listen to tons of audio books on tape, unabridged hours and hours and hours. That's all I do when I'm driving in the car or wherever I'm doing. And it's helped me a lot. If your CEO loves this company, you'll love this company. If your CEO is passionate about the work that we do, you'll be passionate about the work that we do. And I think science always starts with a number two. It starts with experiments you can repeat, things you can do over and over again. But there's sort of a sense in which every moment in the history of business, every moment in the history of technology happens only once. The next Mark Zuckerberg will not be starting a social networking company. The next Larry Page will not start a search engine. The next Bill Gates will not be starting an operating system. And so if you are trying to copy these people, you're in some sense not learning from them. And so I think one of the really big challenges in teaching or writing about entrepreneurship is what can you say about being an entrepreneur at all when the key thing is always to do something new, different, that's not precisely been done before. And so the point of departure I start with in Zero to One is a somewhat indirect approach by asking a series of contrarian questions. The business question is, what great company is nobody starting? The more intellectual version of this question is, tell me something true that very few people agree with you on. And this is a fantastic interview question. It turns out to be quite a hard question, even when people can read on the internet that you ask of everybody who comes in the door, it still is a hard question. It's one of those unusual questions where if you know it's on the test, it's still hard. And it's hard not just because we sort of think that new things require brilliance or something like that, but because it's socially difficult. If I ask you that question, if you tell me something like the education system is screwed up or our political system doesn't work very well, those are true answers, but they're not actually good answers because all of us already know them to be true. The good answers are ones that are somehow uncomfortable that the person interviewing you does not actually want to hear. Where another pair of keen eyes and lateral thinking turns up interesting new information Polarity here demonstrates how the traditional Google map search for the base shows what looks like wasteland or construction, from 2017 And now I realise why some people were sending me odd questions about the base because unless you update it manually you don't see what is actually there now in 2025 And of course I am in the UK and we see many different versions of not just Google but other US-based information, some of it actually helps my other research as I appear to have access to some things that Americans don't, but it works both ways However I urge you to watch the full critique that Josh does which is very fair and very constructive helping me know what else I have not made clear or not looked at in enough detail Also I realise people are so suspicious of AI that they simply think I am some idiot that just asks it questions and waits for it to answer them; understandably I know because many people do this But if you listen to the Space that I hosted directly after posting yesterday or indeed look at the complete discussion I had with AI, which I have published in its entirety, hopefully you will see that researchers like myself use it only as a tool.
