At least two people were killed and eight more critically injured in a shooting Saturday afternoon at Brown University in Rhode Island, authorities said. The suspect is still believed to be at large. In a news conference Saturday evening, Providence Mayor Brett Smiley said that the shooting was reported in the Barus & Holley engineering building. Smiley said that at least two people were killed and eight more taken to Rhode Island Hospital in "critical but stable" condition. Read more:

The police also credited Attorney General Pamela Bondi for coordinating the federal response. When asked whether the victims were personally connected to the suspect, officials said that information is not being released yet. They said any confirmed details will be shared publicly once the investigation allows. Investigators explained that the link between the two crimes was established through a combination of vehicle tracking, financial records, and surveillance footage. Authorities identified a vehicle the suspect rented in Boston that was later seen outside Brown University. The Surveillance footage showed an individual matching the suspect near the campus. Financial records tied the suspect to the rental vehicle, hotel stays, and travel between Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Additional video later captured the same individual within half a mile of the MIT professor’s home in Brookline. Footage also showed him entering an apartment building near the professor’s residence. Later that evening, investigators said video captured the suspect entering a storage facility wearing the same clothing seen after the Brookline murder.
