As part of the steps we earlier promised Nigerians to take to curb the menace of touting and other illegal activities around our airports, earlier today the Managing Director of FAAN, on my behalf, unveiled the armed Aviation Security (AVSEC) unit at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos. We will replicate it at other international airports. They have the mandate to arrest and prosecute touts and other suspected criminals around our airports. This is apart from the other inter-ministerial effort that is still on-going to deal specifically with the issue of agencies of government within the airports that are involved in extortion, bribery and begging.

Glimpses of what's happening at and around Ahmedabad Airport and beyond in the domain of Radio-Taxis, through some of viral videos in circulations: -A person travelling in a Rajasthan-registered car who had booked a Rapido ride was asked to end the ride and switch to Bharat Taxi. -A cab driver called a female passenger who had booked a ride through Uber and told her that she would need to book Bharat Taxi if she wanted to travel. The passenger asked the driver to cancel the ride. -A female cab driver said that she had received an Uber booking but converted the passenger to a Bharat Taxi ride. While the Uber ride would have cost the passenger Rs. 335, the Bharat Taxi ride cost Rs. 500, resulting in a higher fare for the passenger for the same distance while benefiting the cab driver. -A cab driver who had accepted an Uber ride was stopped and surrounded by a group of cab drivers supporting Bharat Taxi. He was asked to distribute tea to everyone for free. The Uber driver complied. -A driver supporting Bharat Taxi said that those driving for Ola, Uber or Rapido would have to pay a fine of Rs. 1,000, which would be donated to a gaushala or NGOs working for blind people. He also asked cab drivers not to allow cabs from other states to operate in the area. -Drivers supporting Bharat Taxi staged a protest at Ahmedabad airport against airport staff for allowing other cab operators to operate there.
