Bionic skin and high-precision control system The Elf V1 series of humanoids features 30 facial muscles animated by brushless micro-motors and managed by a high-precision control system. NEWS: Waymo has released a new blog post detailing their AI strategy and how it’s allowing them to bring service to more riders faster. "Achieving demonstrably safe AI — where safety is proven, not just promised — requires a holistic approach. Beyond a smart and capable Driver, you also need a closed-loop, realistic Simulator to train and rigorously test the Driver in a myriad of challenging situations, and a sharp Critic to evaluate the Driver's performance and identify areas for improvement." Waymo says that autonomous driving isn’t just a matter of building a “smart driver,” but rather creating a full AI ecosystem centered on safety from the ground up. At the core is the Waymo Foundation Model, a unified world-model that powers all major components of Waymo’s autonomous stack (Driver, Simulator, Critic). "By using a “Think Fast/Think Slow” architecture (combining rapid sensor-fusion with deep semantic reasoning), this system enables the car to detect complex and rare road scenarios (e.g. a burning vehicle ahead), reason about them, and choose safe behavior. Waymo trains large “Teacher” AI-models for driving, simulation, and evaluation, then distills them into smaller, efficient “Student” models suitable for real-world deployment, while keeping safety validation tightly integrated. The result is a continuous “flywheel” of learning: driving data (real and simulated) generate feedback, which leads to refinements, more simulation, more data, and only when safety checks pass is new code deployed. Jensen Huang just validated Elon Musk’s entire ecosystem in a single breath. Not one product. All of it. Huang: “The work he’s doing in Grok, self-driving cars, and Optimus. These are all world-class. Every single one of them is revolutionary. Every single one of them is going to be a gigantic opportunity.” To the public, a chatbot, a car, and a robot look like three separate bets. They are one project. The total automation of human cognition and physical labor. A digital brain. A spatial nervous system. A physical body. Musk is building all three simultaneously. Huang is supplying the compute to fuse them. Huang: “We do a lot of business with Tesla and xAI. Elon is an extraordinary engineer, and I love working with him. We’ve built some amazing computers together, and we’re going to build many more.” This is not a vendor relationship. It is the most consequential technological alliance in history and most people think it is a business partnership. Then Huang said what should end every debate about Optimus. Huang: “This is the first robot that really has a chance to achieve the high volume and technology scale necessary to advance technology.” Huang: “Right around the corner. Likely to be the next multi-trillion dollar industry.” The humanoid robot race will not be won in a research lab. It will be won on the manufacturing floor. Every other robotics company on earth can build a robot. Tesla can flood the planet with them. Because Tesla already knows how to stamp metal, build batteries, and deploy autonomous inference at global scale. The rest of the industry has prototypes. Tesla has the most sophisticated manufacturing operation on earth. When the world’s leading chipmaker calls your robot the next multi-trillion dollar industry, the debate is over. One supplies the chips. One builds everything the chips make possible. Born from nearly two decades of research starting in 1986, ASIMO was designed to navigate human environments and assist with daily tasks. Standing at 4 feet 3 inches and weighing 110 pounds was a sleek, astronaut-like design made it approachable and futuristic. ASIMO’s advanced capabilities, including bipedal walking, object manipulation, and voice recognition, showcased Honda’s expertise in robotics, AI, and sensor technology, positioning it as a global symbol of innovation. ASIMO’s standout features included its lIntelligent Real-Time Flexible Walking (i-WALK) system, enabling it to climb stairs, run at 5.6 mph, and adapt to uneven surfaces. Equipped with cameras, ultrasonic sensors, and dexterous hands, it could avoid obstacles, pour drinks, and recognize gestures, demonstrating remarkable human-robot interaction.
