We extend our sincere gratitude to the Government and people of the UK for their timely and support during this challenging period. Relief operations are fully underway. Supplies are being sorted, mobilized, and distributed across the island to assist families and communities affected by Hurricane Melissa. Many areas have already begun receiving critical aid, including food, water, medical items, and temporary shelter materials. We are aware that several communities remain isolated or are difficult to access due to damaged infrastructure. I want to reassure the Jamaican people that every effort is being made to reach them. Through coordinated efforts by the JDF, JCF, ODPEM, and local authorities, we are deploying relief by land and air. We are ensuring that every Jamaican receives the help they need. No one will be left behind.

A perfect storm… but why?! If you look at the National Interagency Fire Center’s Predictive Services, which we have been covering, they knew Hawaii would be ready for significant fire growth as far back at Spring. “El Niño will be the driving factor.” There was a La Niña/El Niño switch this spring… El Niño has developed in the equatorial Pacific Ocean, and rapid warming continues in much of the ENSO region, especially in the central Pacific with continued anomalous warmth off the coast of South America. Above normal sea surface temperatures are observed in all ENSO regions. Most forecast guidance depicts continued warming through summer, with El Niño conditions forecast to continue into winter. The Climate Prediction Center forecasts a greater than 95% chance of El Niño conditions continuing into winter, with a 56% chance of a strong El Niño developing this fall. Other teleconnection patterns, such as the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO), Pacific Decadal Oscillation, and Pacific-North American Pattern may influence weather and climate during the outlook period, but El Niño will be the main driver…

The ‘approach drought’ is alive and well everywhere, including on the beach ❌🏖️ Girls go to the beach in skimpy bikinis and sit on the sand for hours hoping to meet a guy. The guys do not appear (anymore). ALL you actually have to do to meet sexy girls in bikinis yourself is: 1️⃣ Go to the beach. You do not need a ‘Chad physique’ either 2️⃣ Take a stroll along the beach. Lots of people do this. It’s natural 3️⃣ You can have a buddy with you if you want. Bring a beachball to make it more fun 4️⃣ Stop and chat with cute girls you see splashing in the surf or soaking in the sun 5️⃣ If they aren’t interested in chatting, keep strolling & opening till you find girls who are 6️⃣ When you find girls who are down, stop strolling and take a seat with them. It’s been months since substantive #food aid reached Zamzam camp in North #Darfur, despite a #famine declaration weeks ago. But yesterday distributions of food parcels finally started there, enough to help 3000 families at least. It’s a start. A small, but symbolic one. One that staves off death for a few people for just a bit longer. Whats more is that it was made possible with national suppliers via Port #Sudan, a local partner, and regional authorities, and our NRC team. It came together in less than two weeks, to bring some relief to a difficult area that many describe has hard-to-#access. No big negotiations, complex convoy coordination (although did cross front lines), or massive imports. #Humanitarian aid is very necessary, and very possible, as long as all angles are considered and all capacities are connected. — I want to recognise the rapid and bold efforts of people and teams at: WTHO (the local organisation), AIGT (the national supplier), Darfur Regional Governor’s office (notably Mr Abdelbagi), and the North Darfur Humanitarian Aid Commission (especially Dr Abbas), and of course members of our team involved. Collective humanitarian spirit between all teams has made this humble and hopeful outcome possible. We hope very much to repeat and increase the action, though this depends on donor funding being sourced. — Also a statement from authorities here:
