Today, on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking - 2026, I had the honour of inaugurating the Anti-Drug Awareness Week organised by the Hyderabad Police Commissionerate at the ICCC, Banjara Hills, Hyderabad. The fight against drugs is not just a police priority it is a societal responsibility. I want to be very clear, the deadline is now. I have asked every officer, from Home Guard level to DGP, to remain committed to this fight so that our own children do not fall prey to it. What was once a transit point for drug trafficking has now become a consumption zone. Post-COVID, drug consumption has risen in both urban and rural areas. Our children are being targeted traffickers are going as far as mixing narcotics in chocolates and biscuits to hook young minds. This is nothing short of an anti-national activity. This is more dangerous than terrorism or Naxalism today and we must treat it with the same urgency. If there is no demand, there will be no supply. Reducing demand is our collective responsibility. I took an oath today along with my officers and the students present eradicating drugs is our priority, and EAGLE Force is in full action. We are working in close coordination with the School Education Department, DRI, Enforcement Directorate, and Customs to tackle this at every level. The Education Department has been asked to establish Anti-Drug Safety Clubs in every educational institution. Schools that fail to comply will risk losing their recognition. I urge every parent to monitor their children closely, and appeal to families and society to help rehabilitate addicts through de-addiction centres. Keeping our youth away from drugs is the foundation for a golden future of our nation. This is to inform the general public, Nigerians and the Delta State government Delta State Government that children from Happy Home Orphanage Okwe, Delta State were kidnapped by unknown gunmen who invaded their orphanage home since Sunday, 15th June 2025 and selected 7 boys and the only 17 year old girl from the about 20 children in the orphanage. There was only 1 staff present while others were at church, and they lied to her that they came from B Division of Delta State Police for inspection Delta Police Department Delta State police denied any knowledge and assisted to trace the men who abducted the children. After months of searching for these children, the police Nigeria Police Force discovered it was not even the police but some members of Kano State National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons NAPTIP who came ILLEGALLY into Delta State to take those children named: 1. Madu Abuchukwu Elijah - Male 2. Madu Abuchukwu Chinwemeri - Male 3.Madu Abuchukwu Nzubechukwu Ifeanyi 4.Chimamanda Azuke Mpa - Male 5. Chibuike Azuka - Male 6.Munachi Ogugua - Male 7. Chidalu Samuel Emeh - Male 8. Chikamso - Female Kano NAPTIP did not report to any security arm of Delta State and so the case was treated as a kidnap since June. Thankfully, in August, one of the children managed to get hold of a phone and immediately called the orphanage in Delta State. He pleaded with them to rescue them, revealing he asked around and found out they were being held in Kano State, at a place called Nasarawa Children’s Home. He further disclosed that their names had been changed and they were being forced to study the Quran. He also put the kids together and quickly took a pic that showed the 17 year old girl, Chikamso now wearing an hijab. From this information, the Delta State Police, NSCDC and the orphanage home swung into action to get the kids. After the information became public, the phone number the children used to contact them became unreachable. After nearly 4 months of silence since June 15th, because the case came public 3 days ago, NAPTIP is now issuing a statement on September 16th, claiming the children were trafficked from the North to Delta and have now been reunited with their families in the North. Members of the Zero units were among the thousands of Afghans relocated to the United States under the Biden administration after the chaotic withdrawal of U.S. troops in August 2021, which allowed the Taliban to retake control of the country. Muhammad, Mr. Lakanwal’s childhood friend said he had last seen him a few weeks before the Taliban takeover in 2021, when Mr. Lakanwal came to Khost to marry his second wife. He had started smoking weed, Muhammad said, and ended up divorcing his new wife a few days after the wedding. Muhammed recalled that Mr. Lakanwal told him: “When he saw blood, bodies, and the wounded, he could not tolerate it, and it put a lot of pressure on his mind.” Taliban officials denounced the actions of the Zero Units during the war. “After that, they fled to the United States in search of a better life,” Mr. Badloon said in a social media post. “These traitors still do not let the Afghan people live in peace.” The C.I.A. has denied the allegations of brutality among the units, saying they were the result of Taliban propaganda.
