Last night I was on Newzroom Afrika's Africa Today programme hosted by Hugo R.P Ribatika talking about what the new set of American sanctions mean to Zimbabweans. I was joined by former Zimbabwean minister, Saviour Kasukuwere who was removed from the sanctions list on Monday. I explained that sanctions are used by the regime in Harare as cover to explain its failures and corrupt rule. I also talked about how corruption is the bedrock of Zimbabwe's problems, and how there is NO genuine political will to tackle it from within the Zimbabwean government. I explained that the election in 2023 was a corrupt activity, that is why we shouldn't expect a government that came into power through a corrupt, rigged and shambolic election to suddenly fight its own corrupt activities.
