Happy 48th Birthday to the best to ever do it, none other than Foxy Brown, King Fox! Another birthday, another day to be blessed to still have this legend here with us today. When Inga says we are lucky to have her in this reality, she really means it. Only God and herself know the life that she’s been through, and even then, she want to be labeled as a victim because Foxy is more than that. She is a warrior, a fighter. A woman who has stood ten toes down on what she believes it’s right and what’s wrong. Never afraid to speak her mind, to share her ideas, to tell it like it is, and have no filter about it. Some people have looked down on Foxy because of her ways, but I call it real. I will always appreciate the love she has for her fans, even if her number one priority as of now is taking care of her daughter, plus spending time with her. Besides being the greatest spitter to ever grace a mic, she also splits her time in half to balance us and her personal life all-in-one. I mean, what other female rapper can say Dr. Dre has vouched for them? Being Nas and Jay-Z’s “right-hand-bitch” at the same time, doing a rap battle against Biggie himself, or never having Pac dissing her directly. Whew, it makes you think that, she is truly one-of-a-kind. 50 Cent wanted to put everything on the table just to sign her, but you know her loyalty is different when it comes to HOV. Giving Kanye West the opportunity to produce his first number-one album? That’s just crazy work right there, no wonder he did an arm sleeve with her song on it. People do not realize how many doors she has opened in the music industry, with her connections, her sound, her ability to persuade people, she is incredible. There’s a lot to say about her career and persona, and that’s why I never get tired of writing these long messages on her birthday. I’m glad she sees them as well. Carrie Sakamoto was injured by the COVID-19 vaccine. This is her testimony at the Allison Inquiry. 1. Background Carrie was a healthy woman. She had received all her childhood vaccines and a flu shot years earlier. When COVID-19 vaccines became available, she chose AstraZeneca for her first dose in April 2021 because she was told it was closest to the flu vaccine. She received Pfizer for her second dose on June 18, 2021. 2. The onset She got sick right away, flu-like symptoms, same as her husband who received the same shot at the same time. She wasn't concerned at first. The news said side effects like rash and fever were normal. Her husband recovered. She got progressively worse. 3. The swelling and fever Her lymph nodes on the right side of her neck swelled up. She had a high fever. Because of COVID restrictions, her GP wouldn't see her in person, only a phone call. She was diagnosed over the phone with tonsil stones and prescribed antibiotics. 4. "Fire in my brain" The next morning, extreme pain began in her brain. After several days of replaying #NoEspaçoEntreNós trying to transcribe every word like it was some kind of sacred secret 😅… I think I've reached the end of this journey and honestly, it was beautiful 🥹 I've lived in different places, experienced different cultures, tried all kinds of food, seen a variety of landscapes, and listened to music from all over. But the journey I've lived through the voice of Alanis Guillen is, without a doubt, the most sensory experience I've ever had in my life. I always believed music is magic, that sound can move you just as much, if not more, than visuals. But I never really understood how a voice, just a voice in a language I don't even speak, could reach me like this. And that's exactly what happened with Alanis. If I used to think her strength was in her gestures or physical acting tools, I now understand it's something much deeper: it's all of her. Even without the visuals, her voice contains everything. There's something in her cadence, her tone, her vibration, the way she breathes through every line… that wakes something up in me. Even when I had to pull out a dictionary just to keep up, she still managed to move me emotionally. It was a balm for my ears… but also a doorway into understanding. Because in the end, I didn't just want to hear it as music, I wanted to understand it. Understand Maitê. Understand the story. Not just stay with the beauty of the sound, but actually embrace its meaning. That's why I made the effort to translate every word 🥹 And in that process, I ended up valuing even more not just Alanis's artistry, but also the work of everyone who brought this project to life. Her wisdom-per-word ratio is also off the charts. Some highlights from our conversation: 1) Emotions are like colors. Mix them! Emotions are never one-dimensional. Bring together fear and courage, love and revulsion, joy and panic. This collision of feelings is closer to how emotion actually works. 2) Practice literary shapeshifting. Become a new person, a new persona, and a new type of author with every project. Do not confuse your habitual voice with your authentic voice: there is no single way of constructing sentences that must define you. Treat language as a fluid and flexible tool. 3) There's no correlation between how good writing feels in the moment and the quality of the product. We mistake effortlessness for genius, flow, or divine inspiration. So don't evaluate a day’s work by the pleasure of producing it. Judge whether the sentences escaped your pre-existing patterns and helped you think something through. 4) Good writing comes from being attentive to what's happening around you and writing with specificity about those observations, rather than relying on the theoretical. Throughout the day, ask: “Where is this feeling sitting in my body? How am I physically responding to this?” Those questions force you beyond the abstract label and toward something more specific than the reader could easily imagine for themselves. 5) Use your zero draft to discover the beating heart of the story, not to prove that you can already write it. Research, brainstorm, follow your nose, and collect whatever feels surprising or “crunchy.” At this stage, coherence is less valuable than emotional resonance. 6) Draft in layers. Let the early draft remain “balls on sticks.” Add the setting, architecture, faces, furniture, and drape colors in later passes. A person’s visual appearance is often the least interesting thing about them. 7) Use the outsider’s perspective to make language strange again. Nabokov could play, stretch, and innovate with English because he was fascinated by the oddities and opportunities of particular word combinations. 8) Be suspicious of “volunteer words for volunteer thoughts.” Volunteer words are the phrases that offer themselves immediately because they are already floating around in your head. They repeat common discourse and carry ideas that are easy to digest; you are filling the page from your pre-existing dataset rather than articulating something you have actually observed or thought through. 9) If you're stuck, put the subconscious to work.
