A Muslim scholar, Sheikh Mustafa Al-Adawi, openly defends the marriage of the Prophet Muhammad to Aisha when she was 6 years old (with consummation at age 9). He argues that girls in that era were physically mature enough for marriage and that the Prophet, being “a mercy to the worlds,” would not have harmed her. This is not some random extremist. This is a religious scholar explaining mainstream Islamic justification for child marriage. This is exactly why importing this ideology into the West is dangerous, because many of its followers still defend and justify these practices.
