India’s Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar says he sees India as a “power in the middle” rather than a “middle power.” Jaishankar, who was speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in New Delhi, notes that India is the most populous country in the world and has a huge GDP, so using the term “middle power” is self-limiting. 📷: Bloomberg

#WATCH | Oslo | At joint press conference by Nordic PMs, Denmark PM Mette Frederiksen says, "All of us standing here on the stage believe in a rules-based world order, and unfortunately, the old world order is changing rapidly, and it's not going in the right direction and therefore it is even more important than before that partners who really believe in democracy actually work together." "We cannot say that India is a middle power. You are one of the biggest powers. It's not very easy to say that the Nordic countries are a middle power because we are too small to be a middle power. But when we are united, the Nordic countries, then we are a middle power. Working together with one of the greatest powers on these very clear ideas and values, I think we can bring stability, prosperity and unity into a world that is changing rapidly. So we have had discussions today on how to integrate India and the Nordic countries even further, especially when it comes to democracy, AI, new technologies, green transition, defence and security." This is not a WARNING anymore. This is happening. This is not delimitation. This is punishment. Controlled population? Punished. Invested in education? Punished. Built stable states? Punished. You performed… and now you lose power. While failure gets rewarded with more seats. What kind of India is this? Fewer voices for those who drove growth. More power decided only by population. This is not justice. This is not federalism. This is a quiet power shift. And if you stay silent , you are choosing to be ignored. REMEMBER !! Power doesn’t listen to silence. It replaces it. This is not North vs South. This is about the soul of India. This is about Idea of India. Decide. Now. Speak. Now. Jai Telangana Jai Andhra Jai Karnataka Jai Kerala Jai Tamil Nadu Jai Bharat Jai Hind 🇮🇳 Revanth Reddy N Chandrababu Naidu Siddaramaiah Pinarayi Vijayan M.K.Stalin PMO India Narendra Modi

"If India were as well organised as China, it would be going at a different speed. India is not one nation but many nations. It has 320 languages and no PM can speak in a language that is understood everywhere in India. You can do that in China," said ex-Singapore PM Lee Kuan Yew

India's Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar: I use the word "emerging and middle powers" not because I like the word, but because that was the term given to me. Maybe I should escape from that category and go higher than that. After all, my self-perception of myself is: I am a 7,000-year-old civilizational power. I would look around the world and say, okay, there are very few others who would qualify under that criterion.

Under Secretary of Defense for Policy, Elbridge A. Colby: If you're a country like Poland or South Korea or something like that, and you face what you regard as a fairly serious threat, if you embark on let's take a middle powers defense industry initiative and it doesn't pan out or it results in something far inferior, you will pay the cost. The middle power strategy is based on... It's based on I think, as we said, a faulty understanding of international relations, which is that power is in a certain bracket, will naturally have reason to align and work together. In that context, we actually are encouraging middle powers not only to work with us, but also to work with each other. Source: NYT
