The Houthis publish footage of the downing and wreckage of a Boeing F-15SA Eagle II fighter jet (Reg. 5539) operated by the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) that was hit by Ansar Allah air defense forces in the skies over Marib Governorate located in central-west Yemen on September 16, 2026. At this point, the fate of the two crew-members remains unknown. The Houthis claim that the warplane was struck with an unnamed "locally made surface-to-air missile." The downing of the Saudi F-15 coincides with the intensification of ground combat activities in Yemen and launch of new offensive operations by Houthi forces, including on the Red Sea coast. The setbacks suffered by Saudi-backed Yemeni government forces prompted the Royal Saudi Air Force to get more actively involved in combat. That in turn has put Saudi pilots at greater risk of being shot down by capable Houthi air defenses, the result of which we can see in below. Although there were a few more incidents involving RSAF F-15 Eagle fighter jets during the course of the war in Yemen in the past, none of them can be classified as a confirmed kill by the Houthis.
