This is the post I never wanted to write. I’m sad beyond words to tell you that Zelda has passed away. Her health took a downward turn earlier this year, and we made the hardest, kindest decision. In our final moments together, I held Zelda in my arms at home, and she drifted away peacefully into her deepest nap. I’ve been quiet, and I’m so sorry. Zelda’s passing hit me immeasurably hard - she meant the world to me. Our paths crossed in 2014 when I adopted her from the Mayhew rescue shelter. I had recently moved to my first place, distant from family and friends. I felt lonely, and I guess Zelda was too. She spent most of her time hiding under the sofa, observing me with her unblinking stare, spooking at the slightest noise or movement. At times I found it hard to imagine a happy future together, but she didn’t give up on me. She was coaching me to become the patient, gentle and kind person I strive to be today. One day, weeks later, she took the bravest leap and tentatively climbed onto my lap. Earning her trust felt magical. Being her roommate made my flat feel like a home, and we became inseparable. Zelda was with me through so much, from moving in with my partner to getting married, moving home three times more, and twice becoming a father. She was a constant source of joy, laughter, and love for our family - and I feel so privileged to have been able to share some of her antics with you. Grief affects us all in different ways, but it has been a huge comfort to me knowing how much you care. I feel I owe so much to you all for supporting me over the years with all your kind comments, poems, buying the book, making memes, fan art, and more. Thank you, from the bottom of my broken heart. Part of the healing process has taken me through a mountain of old photos and videos of Zelda, and there’s so much that I didn’t get to share. I didn’t get to tell you just how much we adored her, nor how happy a life she had with us. Beneath her online persona, I’m so proud that she evolved from that perpetually startled homebody to the most affectionate, trusting and curious adventurer. Included in this post is a small snapshot of some everyday moments I spent with Zelda. In the coming weeks, I’ll share more. After all, I’ve missed you so much. Zelda, thank you for choosing me that day in the shelter. Thank you for trusting me. Sorry for constantly waving a camera in your face. Only a woman will cry about how hard life is just to see her flexing and living a luxurious lifestyle in a few months. Women know they don't have to hustle to make money. All they have to do is cry for help and watch men come to their aid. Afterall, nobody empowers women more than men. Another day to remind you anytime you see a woman set her camera, cry and post it online, it's a performative act to get empathy from men in order to get the fame which follows with monetary support. A woman who started as an activist and complaining about how hard things were, in less than two years of getting media attention through the help and support of Nigerians who backed her up because they believe in the movement, after getting the attention she wanted and financial support, she reverted back to her true nature as a typical whore which is why she went to do BBL. You'd expect a woman who once cried about how hard things were in the country and understand the value of little money will be financially wise but NO! She went to do BBL because her source of income is derived from hookup. She wasn't fighting for the poor masses but for herself which explains why she's no longer fighting for them because she has gotten her own portion from the government which she once called out. A woman who was complaining about the cost of a crate of egg can now afford to travel from one country to another and sleeping with rich clients while using remote work as her cover up. Only a woman will cry about how hard life is just to see her flexing and living a luxurious lifestyle in a few months. Women know they don't have to hustle to make money. All they have to do is cry for help and watch men come to their aid. Afterall, nobody empowers women more than men. Another day to remind you anytime you see a woman set her camera, cry and post it online, it's a performative act to get empathy from men in order to get the fame which follows with monetary support. A woman who started as an activist and complaining about how hard things were, in less than two years of getting media attention through the help and support of Nigerians who backed her up because they believe in the movement, after getting the attention she wanted and financial support, she reverted back to her true nature as a typical whore which is why she went to do BBL. You'd expect a woman who once cried about how hard things were in the country and understand the value of little money will be financially wise but NO! She went to do BBL because her source of income is derived from hookup. She wasn't fighting for the poor masses but for herself which explains why she's no longer fighting for them because she has gotten her own portion from the government which she once called out. A woman who was complaining about the cost of a crate of egg can now afford to travel from one country to another and sleeping with rich clients while using remote work as her cover up. "I wasn't created to pay bills." So now, she has to whore her way to pay her bills because an average woman believes they're too fragile to hustle legitimately. They should be rewarded for existing and given free money because they are women. They tell you they're an independent woman but still have to sleep with rich men to be independent. Another day to remind you women ain't good with power, fame or money. They'll end up self sabotaging themselves. They start by becoming activist to make you believe they're fighting for the common goal of the masses and as soon as they start enjoying the fame and money, you'll realize their loyalty is only to themselves and they never cared about the masses. You'll be foolish to believe women think of anybody but themselves. This is why you're better off helping a man over a woman. Empowering a woman is helping one person while empowering a man is helping a family. Empowering women doesn't distribute wealth but empowering men, you're guaranteed he's going to empower other people. Before you empower one woman, empower a thousand men. Men are the last hope to a financially stable society.
