The violation of the Model Code of Conduct by the Prime Minister in the middle of the election is completely unacceptable. EC is acting as an extension of the BJP office. First, we saw manipulation of the voter list; then they attempted SIR, and now they want to control the Delimitation Commission. PM Modi is giving a different narrative, claiming that opposition parties opposed the Women’s Reservation Bill. The Women’s Reservation Bill was already passed in 2023, and we all supported it. The Delimitation Bill is a fundamental attack on India’s federal structure. In 2023, Parliament passed a Bill ensuring 33 percent reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies. At that time, Lok Sabha LoP Shri Rahul Gandhi, Rajya Sabha LoP Shri Mallikarjun Kharge, CPP Chairperson Smt Sonia Gandhi ji, and other opposition leaders clearly asked the government to implement it in the 2024 elections. Why was the 33 percent reservation for women not implemented in the 2024 elections? We insisted that women’s reservation should be implemented in 2024, but the government introduced a Bill and said it would be implemented only after the Census, and the Census only after delimitation.
