Failed Assistance - NORTHERN 🚆, having put me on the train at Leeds, failed to get me off at my destination Harrogate, Then ignored the wheelchair space emergency alarm. The train was departing and I had to stand up and pull the red emergency alarm to get off.

@JuoPosts @northernassist The fact the wheelchair space emergency alarm didn’t even alert the driver shows that traction is unfit for service and needs inspecting or did the driver just override the system? @northernassist @transportgovuk

@northernassist If the emergency alarm (not the wheelchair space call for aid) goes off while leaving a station the procedure is to put the emergency brakes straight on! It's ultra dangerous for a disabled person who likely has not much use of their legs to have to get out of their wheelchair -

Obviously this is a bit different to someone missing their stop because they've fallen asleep or whatever, when it is absolutely not appropriate to pull the passcom.

Northern have got into a habit of ignoring the call for aid activated buttons all the time see it happening on the Manchester Airport to Blackpool north line

@northernassist The emergency alarm, should be just for that. Missing your stop, isn’t an emergency. You should have been made aware to the driver where you intended to alight the train. They aren’t mind readers. Book assistance. TUAG sometimes isn’t practical. Sorry if that’s annoying

@northernassist Looks like was used properly and hopefully you got off at the right stop as a result of quick thinking. I would say though due to how short stops can be in the middle of a route on Northern trains definitely speak to staff when boarding, assuming you had to but not everyone does

@northernassist not only are you moving about the train unaided but you also stated you stood up, perhaps you could of wheeled your self to door and stood up leant out and asked for help. That would still be bad that you had to do that but missing your stop and blaming others is wrong.

@northernassist I never saw the ticket inspector/guard who didn't leave the rear cab door the entirety of the journey. I stayed out of the way, cos i know that people will be getting off and being in the doorway inhibits the guard getting g the ramp out of its housing. Had prearranged assistance

@northernassist I've had mixed experiences with passenger assist as a carer. Most have been good, but a few times I've had to lean out the door waving and shout the conductor over. I find it tends to be the getting off the train that is the problem!
