Parents learn how to get out of the way and stay out of the way when your kid is playing. It actually inhibits success when you are coaching or yelling instructions from the stands. Growth happens with failure… as uncomfortable as that makes us as a parent. Once we recognize this, we can be intentional about remaining silent when it comes to instructing, but verbal when it comes to positive encouragement. And encourage all players. It lets your kid know that everyone on their team is important and that you care about team successes. This is fundamental in creating a team concept in your child.

And there are brilliant people who could do that, but for the rest of us who are not brilliant, we have to strive, and we have to go through failure. And we realize that you don't get it right the first time or the second time. In my case and I counted it. It took 5,127 times. With failure you question it “Well why did it go wrong?” And actually the reason it goes wrong is often very, very interesting. Where something works you say “Great that worked.” You don't even stop to wonder why it works. So if you've got to enjoy failure.” —James Dyson

Failure is a teacher. If you have success, you did it right, so there is probably nothing to learn. But if you have failure, there is something to learn. You have to make the most of your failures. Over time, I developed an instinctual reaction to failure. My instinct now is to view failure as a puzzle that will give me gems if I can solve it. The puzzle is simply this: What would I do differently in the future so as not to have that result? When you solve that puzzle, you write the lesson down.
