I love that he makes the self-evident point that if the state invests in support & healthcare of vulnerable groups, the costs pay for themselves because people are much more likely to themselves be invested in contributing to society. Investing in the future is both good & works.

The fact that he uses anorexia as an analogy defeats his own point. We don’t give “weight affirming care” to people suffering from anorexia. We acknowledge that they are suffering from a mental health condition and treat them with therapy in the hope that they will be rid of their fear of gaining weight and no longer obsess over becoming thinner. We do not tell them that if they think they’re too fat then they must be. We certainly don’t perform gastric band surgery on them, no matter how much they insist they are overweight and need to limit their food intake. Believing you’re the other gender is a mental disorder and for us to go along with it is utterly cruel. The horror and shame of what is happening is beyond words and I think this period of history will be looked upon with shock and incredulity by future generations.
