I understand the explanation is the real illusion. I find it fun trying to deduce. He is claiming what he is doing is grounded in science, and I don’t think it is

To be fair, this guy says repeatedly that he’s not psychic and that he read books to learn how to be a mentalist. Every step of the way he was saying that it’s all about math and learning to read people.

I don't understand your gripe here? He explains he does it through manipulation and reading tells. If he went on there and said I'm magic and this is a god-given gift that allows me to see into your mind. That would be something different. So, what exactly are you upset about?

It’s been proven that mentalists have entire systems pre set up to get information far before the performance. The question is, what systems did they use to get it?

What does it mean to be “fake”? He is reading people. It isn’t magic and he doesn’t claim it is, does he? He can’t guess random numbers. It’s still pretty cool — I don’t get what’s being exposed

So you are “exposing “ some who stated multiple times it is not psychic power, but practiced manipulation - do I have that right? Why did you write -Fake mentalist? That would imply that there are real mentalist. In the episode the guest discusses how mentalist are just performers, so what is your issue with the guest?

You seem to misunderstand the mentalist's art. Mentalists don't claim to be psychics. Instead they use the techniques of people who do claim to be psychics for entertainment (and also as a way to expose "psychics" as frauds). In other words, they're both trying to trick you, but mentalusts are up front and honest about trying to trick you, and the audience is coming to be tricked. Numbers are a frequent theme in mentalism, because of the many ways you can manipulate them. Many mentalist tricks are numbers games playing mathematical probabilities. But crucially, they have to set you up, without you realizing, for the trick. You are asking him to just be a psychic. But a psychic wouldn't answer you. A mentalist would. He'd tell you he's not a psychic, and can't just predict your random number. He'd then lead you to create a new number that you think is random, but which he knows isn't.
