Propaganda pirata.

The principle of self-determination cannot be invoked to legitimize a colonial situation created by an occupying power through population displacement and settlement. That is precisely the case of the Malvinas Islands. The Malvinas were, are, and always will be Argentine. 🇦🇷

Discovered in 1540 by the Spanish, with first landing lasting 10 months. Port Louis settled in 1764 by the French, ceded to Spain in 1767, renamed to Puerto Soledad and run from Buenos Aires (with a small hiatus due to the independence war) until the British invasion of 1833.

This is absolute bollocks. Real story: British since 1690, 126 years BEFORE the existence of Argentina. • 1690: English captain John Strong made the first recorded landing and named the sound between the two main islands after Viscount Falkland (the name later applied to the whole group). • 1765: Commodore John Byron claimed the islands for King George III and initiated a British settlement at Port Egmont on Saunders Island (West Falkland). A more developed naval garrison and settlement followed in 1766 under Captain John McBride. Britain was initially unaware of a French settlement founded on East Falkland in 1764. • Britain withdrew its garrison in 1774 for economic reasons (related to the approaching American War of Independence) but left a plaque asserting continued sovereignty and never formally renounced the claim. Spain (which had taken over the French settlement) maintained a presence until around 1811. • After independence in 1816, the United Provinces/Argentina began asserting claims to the islands (then often called the Malvinas) from 1820 onward and attempted settlements in the late 1820s–early 1830s. • January 1833: Because of Argentine aggression (what’s new) Britain reasserted control. HMS Clio (under Captain John James Onslow) arrived, the Argentine flag at Port Louis/Puerto Soledad was replaced with the British one, and the small remaining Argentine garrison left without fighting. Continuous British administration began at this point (interrupted only briefly by Argentina’s 1982 occupation). • Formal colonization followed: the British government approved establishing a colony around 1840, the first civilian lieutenant governor (Richard Clement Moody) was appointed in 1841–1842, and the islands became a Crown Colony by the mid-1840s. A boring, boring, argument. The Spaniards really can whinge.

Brazil officially recognizes the Malvinas Islands as being under Argentine sovereignty. The UK is on the other side of the planet and has no business in my neighborhood. Don’t make Brazil get involved in this issue; the last time, the Iron Lady trembled. 🇧🇷😎☕️

Low effort video with huge errors or straight up British propaganda. Argentina doesn't argue proximity. Spain didn't buy the islands. Vernet didn't seek British permission (and even if he did, it's irrelevant). An implanted population isn't entitled to self determination.

Small point. We named them in 1690. The French only appeared about 10 years later and tried to claim the Islands in 1763. We returned 1764.
