The local mayor described the riots as "anti-cop revenge protests." The mayor compared the unrest with the nationwide riots in France this summer following the racist police killing of 17-year-old Nahel Merzouk. "[Some] draw parallels with what happened in France with the death of Nahel" – said Mayor Serge Fillot. Police banned gatherings and cracked down on the protests with a large deployment of riot police backed by water cannons. According to local media, cooperation with the national intelligence service prevented the protests from spilling into the capital Brussels.

Tear gas and clashes have been reported as crowds return to the streets despite heavy security. In Tehran’s west and south, IRGC units were seen threatening protesters with rifles. A mosque in Haft Hoz used by security forces was reportedly set on fire. In Ramsar, the atmosphere is described as near-martial law, with early shutdowns and military deployment. Very disturbing reports are coming in from multiple cities of the IRGC, Basij, and other forces opening fire on protesters.

Farmers report that police have threatened to also kidnap the sisters and daughters of Punjab's protestors to marry them off. Police have been joined by suspicious individuals in civilian clothing that are also equipped with police weapons. Haryana Police have also kidnapped and abused elderly farmers in Punjab, crossing the border to break legs and carry farmers off in jute bags, farm leaders and witnesses share. This comes at the same time one farmer was shot and killed by the police. Farm unions are calling on Punjab's government to do more to stop cross border aggression. The farmers are holding at the borders between Punjab and Haryana, on their way to demonstrate in Delhi. The Haryana government is under BJP control, and has placed barriers to stop protestors and unleashed police brutality to attack farmers. #FarmersProtest2024

In fact, we signed this agreement in August, and every day since, the United States has been in compliance with what it agreed to do under the agreement. We have yet to have a day where the Europeans are in compliance because they had a process to go through. We’ve been complying. We’re looking forward to the EU successfully getting through its process. My interview with euronews 👇

There will also be a delay in planned carbon tax hikes. Irish farmers, truck drivers, agricultural contractors, taxi and bus operators launched nationwide fuel protests on April 7th, blocking fuel depots, ports and Ireland’s only oil refinery with their tractors and other vehicles. The core issue is soaring diesel and petrol prices, which have jumped sharply due to the crisis in the Hormuz Strait. Protesters argue these costs, combined with Ireland’s carbon tax on fuels including “green diesel” used in agriculture, make operations unsustainable.
