He neglected to mention he gets paid on live weight, not processed weight. Saleable meat is between 50% - 60% of the liveweight.

I try to buy direct from farmers, but their prices aren’t much better direct after factoring in shipping etc. our local butches have decent prices, I don’t shop at supermarkets Anyone have recommendations to source meat and produce directly? In Sydney.

Australia is a gigantic Ponzi. A large part of this is about corporates relying on 3M public sector pretend workers and their ludicrous wages and pricing accordingly. Immediately retrench at least 2M of them- the country would run fine with .5M total- totally different story.

Would we could get a service where we link farmers with people and get meat delivered straight from the farmer

Solution?? I buy from OurCow but they are just as, if not more, expensive...

@Docstevens007 You know there are alternative supply to supermarkets, trouble is they are seriously more expensive that the supermarkets. If they are serious about change and challenging the big guys then be competitive.

If the farmers sold directly to the public for the same prices they sold to the stores itbwould be game over for the big stores. But they don't. They sell for the same price and often even more when buying directly. Been to farmers markets lately? You pay more than supermarkets!!

From NZ for starters and they don’t say KG..

Tieri is a remote community with the food works being the only place in town to buy from. Of course they are going to gouge you. Anyone who has spent any time living remote has a freezer full of meat from farms in the area or stock up at woollies.

The farmers grow the cow and sell a full cow for approximately $1500-3000 ea depending on weight. Very little work has gone into that calf other than a 12mth management, there is 1 bull servicing multiple cows and they primarily come from 1000+ acre farms. it is very profitable.
