Katsina Agricultural Mechanized Centre Commissioned by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu yesterday on the first day of his working visit will serve the 34 local councils in the state. The Governor announced 400 tractors had been purchased with the federal government's N25 billion intervention, 160km of roads had been constructed, and some rehabilitated within the state over the period, while power, water supply, and healthcare facilities had improved people's lives. Governor Radda also added that the Ministry of Agriculture had supplied the state with 4,000 pumping machines to enhance irrigation farming. He said 448,000 metric tonnes of fertiliser were distributed to farmers last year, and this year, they will receive 400,000 metric tonnes.

Before I interviewed Lewis Bollard, I had assumed that factory farming was on its way out (especially given new tech like cultivated meat around the corner). Unfortunately this is far from inevitable: factory farms are already incredibly efficient machines for making meat (the most efficient broiler chickens convert 1.38 kg of grain into an astonishing 1 kg of flesh). I'd previously assumed that cultivated meat will soon trounce factory farming just on raw economics. Growing meat around a whole creature and mind cannot be the most efficient way to produce tasty flesh, right? Lewis thinks we may be many decades away (at least) from this outcome. Evolution has spent on the order of tens of millions of years optimizing human intelligence. And in order to try replicating this feat, AGI labs have to spend hundreds of billions of dollars a year. Evolution has spent far longer than that (basically the entire time) figuring out how to convert food into meat efficiently. Of course, tech on farms historically has favored more suffering (think gestation crates, battery cages, and overgrown broiler chickens). Improving the conditions on factory farms also requires corporate commitments and regulations against the most cruel practices. Every year we're factory farming about 2% more land animals globally. On the default trajectory, the amount of raw suffering in the world is likely to keep increasing. But there are reasons to think this can change. New technologies like in-ovo sexing have already saved hundreds of millions of male chicks from gruesome fates, with the potential to save billions more. And corporate commitments to go cage-free have already spared well north of 500 million hens from torturous battery cages (again, with the potential to help tens of billions more). Beyond the mere automation of agriculture, our robot integrates several AI technologies to make farming intelligent, accurate, and productive but it seems a lot of people do not fully grasp what it takes to program a fully functioning agricultural robot, which is the first of its kind in the history of our country. It has taken us years to master the intricate and highly technical processes of teaching a robot how to see and understand its environment. Teaching a robot to spray a weed without touching a crop is not easy. It takes pixel-level precision and a staggering, painstaking number of years of complex annotation to get it right. We have failed many more times trying to get it right than we have trying to convince people that, with the right funding, we cannot just build farm machines but also have the capacity to engineer advanced technologies that can be applied across multiple industries. Come to think of it—how many industrial machines are we manufacturing locally and producing for export? With the engineering of our farm robot (FAMA), which is market-ready for deployment on farmlands, we are demonstrating that Ghanaian engineers have what it takes to transform our industry and make Africa a competitive, self-sustaining hub of innovation and manufacturing. There is no country that has truly developed in its fullest sense without a strong foundation in engineering. We are leveraging computer vision, edge computing, and real-time data processing to drive sustainable farming. A lot of people who sat on the sidelines of our history, waiting to see how young people like us would push our brand visibility, have done themselves a great disservice. This video from January 2023 marks the beginning of an extraordinary journey… Here's a glimpse of our achievements since then: 🏡 We found our dream property in Tennessee, collaborated with our incredible MH team to craft the perfect design, and premiered season 1 of our TV show. 🧴 We scaled up production for my homemade Tallow Balm, hydrating the skin of thousands of satisfied customers 😅 🍊 We launched custom Food Security Systems and homestead design plans, empowering individuals to cultivate their own food freedom right at home. 🛠️ We launched our B2B green building materials division, featuring health paint, thermal barriers, windows, & doors, which has boomed with the support of our dedicated sales team. 🪴 Our soil health & science division has revolutionized farming practices, fostering healthier crops, improved plant growth, and greater yields with less water consumption. 💦 We introduced our water security division, showcasing innovative water generator machines backed by our patented technology. ☀️ Currently, we are developing of our solar division. 🌿 And now, Evan DeMarco and I are exploring properties in other states to transform barren land into flourishing, nutrient-rich foundations for turnkey homesteads. Embracing the Modern Homestead lifestyle means taking these principles and building a life of freedom and self-sufficiency.
