You can hear the terror in the kid's voice! Flipped a switch in that dad! Doesn't even matter who's kid it is, when parents hear that particular "pitch" of terror, ALL parents are "eyes up" "muscles pumped" looking for the issue! Now, I just had a flash of insight. We USED to be a society that would do this when a pedo or purse-snatcher or assaulter went after people. I used to tell my girls, all they had to do was raise their voice, scream, "Help! Help!" and 20 manly men would surround them and say, "What do you need?" But now? We've been trained to second guess ourselves. Will we be sued? Put in jail? Don't get involved... At least we're still allowed to go after the stray dogs attacking our kids...
