It took me years to finally be able to share publicly that I was born with Sickle Cell. Over the last 2 years I have spoken about this disease during my performances but I realise that more needs to be done. Every year over 100,000 children are born with Sickle Cell in Nigeria alone. Sickle Cell has no cure, it is highly under researched because it largely affects West Africans. This weekend was very emotional for me, met children living with the disease, spoke with parents who are finding it hard to cope amidst the economic crisis in the country. Thank you to Sickle Cell Advocacy & Mgt Initiative and @sicklecellfoundationng for the work you are doing. I am inspired by the touching stories and encounters I had last weekend and I want to ensure that all the independent organisations doing the vital work, outreach and research needed to fight Sickle Cell receive the resources and support that they desperately need. To my Champions, if I can do it, you can do it too. ❤️

Hello everyone, I’m posting on behalf of Bamimosu Mariam, a sickle cell warrior who has been battling osteomyelitis for 16 years. She has undergone 6 different surgeries, yet her condition hasn’t improved. A few weeks ago, she went for a check-up and her X-ray showed that her bone has broken despite the iron implant in her leg. This is what can happen when an AS woman marries an AS man: AA baby (normal hemoglobin) – 25% chance AS baby (carrier of sickle cell trait) – 50% chance SS baby (sickle cell disease) – 25% chance So, there is a 25% chance that they will have an AA baby, meaning the child will not carry the sickle cell trait. However, this doesn’t happen in all cases, so it’s advisable that people with the AS genotype should not marry anyone who also has AS genotype. If your boyfriend is AS and you are also AS, it’s better to reconsider the relationship for the sake of your future children. Also, remember to take care of your oral health!

Criminals are using this as a business they do not have shifts for you. Your visa will tie you to a sponsor, if the sponsor does not have work, life will be extremely difficult. This camp continues to grow daily and now houses thousands. We are working to support these people as much as we can, but we can only do that with your support.
