We all climbed uphill, and when we looked back, we saw the whole school was washed away. One of the teachers, Santosh Parihar, is missing. Education is very important, and we need to re-establish the school at a safe site. We will need the help of donations."

Scientists now believe the catastrophic flash flood on the Nepal-China border that left more than 353 people dead and over 1,300 still missing was caused by a 2,000-foot-wide chunk of ice that broke off a glacier and fell to the valley below. This is known as a glacier collapse. The immense block of ice plummeted 4,000 feet down, pulverizing on impact and mixing with mud and rocks to create a fast-moving, 250-foot-tall wall of debris that tore through riverside settlements at speeds of 44 mph. I live in Lukenya, Machakos County, less than 40 kilometres from Nairobi. Directly across from my home lies Kilili village — a place politicians flood every election season to beg for votes. The village has about 500 residents, including over 300 school-going children. It boasts more than 20 unlicensed bars, 15 churches, and just six police officers stationed at the nearby Lukenya Police Post. When it rains, a seasonal river floods and completely cuts off access to Mountainview Primary School, which sits on the opposite side of the village. The Kilili village is densely populated, with families renting houses while working at stone quarries and cement factories. Fewer than 20 people, including me, live on my side of the river. During the rains, I stay put because even vehicles cannot cross the flooded river. Meanwhile, young children are forced to miss classes, while others risk their lives trying to wade through the dangerous waters. The school also lacks running water, so pupils must carry their own for drinking and handwashing. Cement giants like Bamburi Cement PLC and Mombasa Cement extract raw materials from our area, reap billions in profits, and contribute millions in levies to the county. Yet those levies come from the very parents whose children must wade through a river just to reach school — and who study without access to clean drinking water. This is not merely a weather problem. It is a glaring failure of leadership and service delivery. Machakos County’s budget for 2025/26 stands at KSh 10 billion. I am confident that Governor Wavinya Ndeti Oduwole, EGH can resolve this issue in a single day — before a child drowns — just as Governor Sakaja swiftly fixed some roads in Nairobi ahead of French President Macron’s visit.

BREAKING: Urgent situation as TUSLA / CAMHS “experts” (LGBT activists) block a vulnerable child’s access to education. Martina Burke speaks out. Martina Burke has operated a tuition centre in Castlebar Co. Mayo for over 25 years. In this year’s Leaving Certificate exams 40% of students achieved H1 in Higher Level English, with 63% achieving H3 or above in Maths (HL). In 2021 a mother requested assistance for her son who had no school place. The child thrived academically and behaviourally, excelling in his studies. Professionals advised that the child could not succeed at a mainstream school at the time, and that the education he was receiving from the Burkes was the best for him for the present. TUSLA were carrying out an initial assessment involving the child at the time but excluded Martina Burke from the process. According to TUSLA’s own policy all professionals involved with a parent and child are consulted as part of an initial assessment. The child’s difficulty in securing a school place went to the District Court. TUSLA gave evidence that the child would receive services upon enrolment in mainstream school. These included SNA, OT, speech and language and NEPS. On the basis of this evidence the court directed that the child be enrolled in a mainstream school. None of the promised services were provided. The child has spent the last two years on a school corridor or in an isolation room. Martina Burke wrote to the Principal twice but never received any response. Martina Burke attended a meeting with CAMHS on 14 August. The two doctors present, Dr. Ronan Rice and Dr. Mark Farquhar, led Martina Burke to believe that they knew nothing about the child’s circumstances at school. In reality CAMHS were fully aware of the child’s horrific experiences at mainstream school over the past two years. When TUSLA were asked why they excluded Martina Burke from the initial assessment they said they were “not in a position to comment.” When Martina Burke pressed for answers TUSLA sent the matter to a ‘third party’, an ‘independent complaints officer’ named Mary Hargaden. Far from being independent Ms Hargaden spent 40 years working with HSE/TUSLA. In 2021 her consulting company received a contract from TUSLA for €1.5 million. Martina Burke received over 22 emails and letters from Ms Hargaden but never received an answer as to why she was excluded. In a report issued last month Hargaden stated that TUSLA “appear to have intended” to consult with Martina Burke about the child’s educational progress. They never did however. CAMHS have several inpatient residential units across Ireland. The logo for these units is the LGBT flag which is a promotion of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender ideology. If you wish to foster a child in Ireland TUSLA require that you are willing to affirm LGBT ideology. Christian belief is not tolerated. Following a damning report into CAMHS in 2023 Dr. Maeve Doyle (‘Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist’) said that CAMHS “needed €2 billion.” CAMHS does not need more hundreds of millions. What we need is basic transparency and truth. Martina Burke was led to believe by these so-called professionals that they were unaware of the facts around this tragic situation. This was not true. These organisations are accountable to no one, and parents live in fear of them. If they cannot be transparent and truthful this should not be tolerated and they should be shut down.

While in the cell, I stare at drawings by current and former political prisoners whose work I included in Police State - imprisoned for years for being good people. I feel this very tangible, visceral solidarity between people suffering from the police state in a part of the world where I’m from - and here, in the US, where families are torn apart, mothers arrested and deported while picking their kids up from school, children crying for help as their fathers are dragged away. These are mothers, fathers—not the proverbial gang members, but hard-working breadwinners and caretakers. I'm thinking of dehumanization and scapegoating as a universal mechanism—applied with heartbreaking ruthlessness both back home and here. I'm thinking how the Western idea that history inevitably moves toward progress is a mirage. There’s no guarantee of a better tomorrow—and like Alice in Wonderland, we must run as fast as we can just to stay in one place, to ensure survival. As I leave my prison cell at MOCA and join the protesters, I see people caring for each other, giving out gas masks, water, and protective glasses. This spirit of care and solidarity is precious. We were just blocked from entering a public high school in Los Angeles to preach the gospel… And what happened next raises serious questions about discrimination against Christians and conservatives once again. Before the thousands of views, comments, and opinions — here’s the raw truth. Buckle up. Over the last two months, we’ve gone to nearly 30 public schools across Southern California. We’ve been invited by students, staff, and faculty to share during school hours at Christian clubs on campus. Thousands of students have responded to the gospel. Tears streaming down their faces, real salvation and even demons being casted out (that was the last controversy). Our heart is simple, to bless each school and make an eternal impact in the lives of students. Two days ago, I posted a video of students responding to Jesus at the previous school we visited. It’s reached millions of views online. The next morning, I received a message that a Los Angeles Unified School District board member had seen the video and is demanding it be taken down. The high crime of students coming to Jesus and being saved! God forbid! Problem number one: they thought it was filmed at the school we were scheduled to visit next. It wasn’t. Still, a call was arranged with faculty. We were told no audio or video recording on campus for the school we were visiting today. Problem number two: a quick search shows this same school has allowed other outside organizations to film and post content online. That is clear discrimination. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse. They only allowed two members of our four person team onto campus today. I was escorted into a private room with multiple faculty members and given a list of restrictions. Is this communist Cuba or North Korea? That was a legit thought at one point. We made our way to the classroom and I preached the gospel, it was powerful! And right as I was about to invite students forward — a loud fire alarm went off. You can’t even make this up. As I was praying for students after the club ended, a faculty member interrupted and told these specific students they had to leave for class immediately. Then that same faculty member stepped off school property onto public property in front of the school and approached our team members who had been barred from coming onto the campus. Why did he do that? To try to intimidate us as our team was praying for the students walking by! Friends, this is the United States of America. We were just blocked from entering a public high school in Los Angeles to preach the gospel… And what happened next raises serious questions about discrimination against Christians and conservatives once again. Before the thousands of views, comments, and opinions — here’s the raw truth. Buckle up. Over the last two months, we’ve gone to nearly 30 public schools across Southern California. We’ve been invited by students, staff, and faculty to share during school hours at Christian clubs on campus. Thousands of students have responded to the gospel. Tears streaming down their faces, real salvation and even demons being casted out (that was the last controversy). Our heart is simple, to bless each school and make an eternal impact in the lives of students. Two days ago, I posted a video of students responding to Jesus at the previous school we visited. It’s reached millions of views online. The next morning, I received a message that a Los Angeles Unified School District board member had seen the video and is demanding it be taken down. The high crime of students coming to Jesus and being saved! God forbid! Problem number one: they thought it was filmed at the school we were scheduled to visit next. It wasn’t. Still, a call was arranged with faculty. We were told no audio or video recording on campus for the school we were visiting today. Problem number two: a quick search shows this same school has allowed other outside organizations to film and post content online. That is clear discrimination. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse. They only allowed two members of our four person team onto campus today. I was escorted into a private room with multiple faculty members and given a list of restrictions. Is this communist Cuba or North Korea? That was a legit thought at one point. We made our way to the classroom and I preached the gospel, it was powerful! And right as I was about to invite students forward — a loud fire alarm went off. You can’t even make this up. Over the past few days, I have been personally monitoring and reviewing the relief and rehabilitation efforts underway across the flood and landslide-affected areas of North Bengal following the extreme rainfall earlier this month. Day before yesterday, I had visited Hasimara in Alipurduar, and yesterday, I travelled to Nagrakata, Chalsa, Mal, and Kurseong, meeting affected families, interacting with officials, and overseeing the ongoing restoration work on the ground. Today, I shall visit the other side of Mirik to personally assess the situation in the landslide-affected areas and ensure that every affected person receives the support they need. Tomorrow, I will convene an administrative meeting for Darjeeling, Kalimpong, and Mirik. During my visit to Nagrakata, I interacted with the residents at the relief camps in Bamandanga and Tandoo, ensuring that food, shelter, and medical facilities are being provided without interruption. I also reviewed the repair work of the Tanatani Bridge over the river Gathia, which was severely damaged during the flash floods, and later inspected the Kalikhola Bridge, now restored by the Public Works Department. At the Bamandanga relief camp, I had the opportunity to hand over appointment letters for Home Guard employment to the family members of flood victims as part of our comprehensive rehabilitation initiative. Ten beneficiaries, including eight from Jalpaiguri and two from Cooch Behar, received their letters today. I have also announced that every family whose house has been damaged in the calamity will receive financial assistance of ₹1.2 lakh for reconstruction under our State scheme. Our Maa-Mati-Manush Sarkaar has mobilised all resources to ensure comprehensive, round-the-clock relief operations. Special camps have been set up to help citizens recover essential documents lost in the floods, while students who lost their books are being provided new study materials. Food kits, disaster management supplies, and other essentials are being distributed extensively across all affected areas. Natural calamities are beyond our control, but our compassion, preparedness, and collective resolve define our response. The courage, grit, and perseverance of the people of North Bengal continue to inspire me. Our State Government will remain by your side, every hour, every day, until normalcy is fully restored.
