Singapore worked cos their system wasn’t a democratic kind of governance and their leader was allowed to lead for close to 20yrs, so he wa able to input long term plans, instead of the short term ideas which is only done to appeal to voters

Very thought provoking piece. We really need to make a change or else this beloved country will suffer for it.

If we adopt the 1/3 of the Singapore business model: human capital development or strong infrastructure & urban planning , Ghana will not be a developing nation with all the natural resources we have. We need someone who can drive this agenda without fear of tarnishing their legacy. People get into positions of power not help develop the nation but to enrich their pockets. And the cycle continues for 8 years. The amount of money lost every year through corruption could have created enough jobs for the youth. What’s the excess of Ghana Beyond Aid or ORAL if they’re just another slogan to amass support for political agenda?

Singapore has only a few major ethnic groups, with the Chinese forming about 75% of the population, and it built its progress on meritocracy, strong institutions, and a shared national identity. Africa, by contrast, is far more complex. Ghana alone has over 70 ethnic groups, and politics often reflects tribal favoritism , under Kufuor and the NPP, certain tribes received disproportionate appointments and public-sector jobs, and a similar pattern was seen under Rawlings. This ethnic bias has weakened unity and slowed development compared to Singapore’s merit-based approach. The challenge is not unique to Africa , Europe also has strong ethnic identities, and groups such as the Catalans in Spain, the Scots in the UK, and the Flemish in Belgium continue to demand autonomy or secession. The USSR and Yugoslavia both collapsed largely along ethnic lines. The difference is that European states, over centuries, evolved borders that usually left one or two dominant groups in each country, while Africa inherited colonial borders that forced 70–200 ethnic groups into a single state without strong institutions to hold them together. It is human nature for people everywhere to prioritize their immediate group ( ethnic/family ) before national interests. The problem in Africa is the scale of diversity and the absence of systems that can balance these identities. This is why it would be best for many African countries to adopt strong federal systems or even be reorganized along ethnic or regional lines. No country should be expected to function effectively with 70+ ethnic groups forced into one state without adequate institutional safeguards. Either federalism or ethnic-based states would reduce tensions, ensure fairer representation, and allow development to be built on unity within diversity rather than constant tribal competition. This by force marriage of many ethnic groups together go hard.. it doesn’t promote long term national development, development will eventually come but we must understand it’ll be slow..

We need a system that is above every person in the country, a system even the president doesn’t have power over, the only way to ensure accountability and transparency is a system, not individuals telling us what’s good and what’s not

If you wanna save Ghana, as a leader you have to be ruthless, have iron balls, be emotionless, face reality, do the right thing for the people not what they want, if you do the right thing everybody will fall in line, enforcement of the law has to be solid.

Political parties signing peace agreements are the same ones with vigilante groups. Political parties who vows to help fight corruption are the same ones fighting those fighting corruption Easiest way to acquire wealth is by politics or corruption in Africa(Ghana)

In Ghana, the citizens are thought to love their political parties more than the nation and until that changes, the country will remain divided and less developed.

Very thought provoking but what we really want is to change "Akwaaba" to "Oobakɛ" at KIA. Our conducts tell our leaders not to take us serious 🤔.

Maybe we’ve had the education approach wrong. Men/Women don’t build nations, only IDEAS do but without the appropriate approach to education for the men and women, they won’t have the right IDEAS to identify problems and apply the right solutions. Bernard, @benkoku said something on his @Citi973 breakfast show sometime ago that, the economic model or principles (largely a copied version from the west) that we have used over the years in Ghana is like a copy and paste situation and I think only the right ideas can model an economic system that do not take the Ghanaian situation out of the equation. An economic model that takes all the important issues and economic models across the globe into consideration and then developed one that specifically understands the situation in Ghana with clear short to medium and long term goals. Fact is, the kind of learning you get eventually shapes your thinking and your approaches to things and most of us have in one way or the other, experienced it from birth. See Elon Musk for an example and how he’s been able to make space craft ships reusable unlike first when the ships always got destroyed when coming back from orbit to the ground. NASA, European space agency and others like Russia, china , Japan and co always had to spend millions of dollars to build new ships anytime they want to go to the ISS but Elon and his team found an IDEA to bring a new solution. Again, with the right approach to the education/foundation, the leaders and the citizenry will largely be on the same page in terms of the understanding of where we are, where we want to go and how to get there.

We can’t have a striving society with the mindset of the average Ghanaian. We can blame our leaders for God knows when but until we change our mindset and attitude, there’ll be no change/development. Put a common bin around circle and instruct them to litter into it and see

Our leaders are corrupt, they rob the ordinary Ghanaian of their birth rights as citizensof this country. These same politicians give the same people they've robbed and also are in the process of robbing peanuts to defend and fight for them on social media. We are in a country you will see that politicians' works are yielding no results but for them to deceive the people and for people to hail them, they have employed the media to hail them and also they have their own media to capture their meetings to show to the people that they are working. Fellow Ghanaians are gullible and hail politicians for doing nothing
