FEMALE PASSENGERS USING E-HAILING SERVICES AFTER ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION Recent online discussions highlight concerns that alcohol consumption by female passengers may increase their vulnerability to sexual assault and kidnapping incidents involving e-hailing service drivers (e.g., Uber, Bolt). Studies and public commentary suggest that intoxication can impair judgment and awareness, making...

Never normalize alcohol use on social media. It can trigger persons trying to quit the habit or those who are abstinent get back on the destructive path. Look at this guy as an example. He is everything a human being must not be. He has a huge following on Instagram and this video has been watched by more than 100K people. He calls himself "Ashdin Doctor." People may think he is actually a Doctor, but "Doctor" is his surname. He has a Bachelors degree in Arts and Masters in Marketing Management. But here he is, advising people how to drink alcohol the right way. This video is utter garbage. His advice is targeted at preventing "dehydration" due to alcohol consumption. Dehydration is NOT the ONLY issue with alcohol consumption. Here are real issues with alcohol use whether or not, you choose to drink more water in between. 1. Alcohol use has been consistently linked to an increased risk of cancer. The type of alcohol - beer, wine, vodka or rum, does not change this risk. Even those who consume one drink per day have an increased risk. Even low dose of alcohol over short and long periods increases risk of terrible cancers. Cancers of the head & neck, esophagus (food pipe), liver, breast and colon/rectum are strongly linked to alcohol use. & & 2. Even occassional or low dose alcohol use such as one to two drin ks a day or few drinks in a week reduces the brain volume. Drinking one to two alcohol drinks a day increases brain aging: it "ages" the brain faster, by 2 years. If it is two to three drinks a day, then the brain changes are equivalent to brain shrinking and aging faster by three and half years. & 3. Even low/modest alcohol use reduces fertility in women and men. Lower chances of getting pregnant and the risk for reduced live births in women and due to fertility issues in men has been strongly linked to alcohol use - low doses and worsens with modest increments. & 4. Alcohol use is associated with male to female partner violence, perpetration and victimization of violence and early-childhood trauma & & 5. That low dose/modest daily alcohol use improves survival or increases life expectancy has been swept away into the garbage with a recent high powered metanalysis paper. No level of alcohol use is beneficial for human health. And recent studies show that increasing level of alcohol kills women more than men for the same dose and duration of use. Look for credible sources for healthcare information. Develop a critical thinking to filter medical/healthcare information for your benefit. A normal person would never make a video on how to drink alcohol. Alcohol is a known poison. A person may have many followers and well-edited videos and click-bait titles. But remember, they have nothing to lose if YOU get into harms way. The best part is, Ashdin Doctor, the Instagram influencer is a "Habit Coach" (FFS) and has written a children's book, titled The "Book of Good Habits For Kids" - but here he is, advising his followers how to drink alcohol better. There is some real cognitive dissonance happening and people must learn to spot such fakes on social media. IVM Podcasts should grow a brain before they host such unintelligent life forms on your platform. Stay informed and stay safe.

Long rant, but worth it, please read & share. A bunch of businessmen, some quite famous, sit around a table discussing the "business of alcohol." So far so good. Alcohol is good business, a business that leech out others life. It rakes in money for governments through taxation & monopoly; and fattens the bank accounts of those behind the industry (like this round table group) and makes barons out of those who sell well. But when these businessmen, start glorifying their business of alcohol by equating it to "good healthcare intervention," it goes definitely into the realm of health misinformation, which is why, I have to keep discussing this absolutely garbage myth that "alcohol in moderation is good for you" and the absolute nonsense disclaimer to support that myth, which they call "drink responsibly." You know, first of all, it is easy for these rich men and women to glorify their alcohol business and discuss their high flying life, because "God" forbid, if they ever land with diseases related to alcohol - from strokes, to cancers to liver disease to mental health disorder - they can afford the best care out there. I treat alcohol use disorder and related acute liver disease, chronic liver failure and acute-on-chronic liver failure (the most devastating of them all with highest death rate without a timely liver transplantation) on a daily basis. I am not even saying "almost on a daily basis" - it is daily. Every single day from Monday to Friday - both in-patients, as well as out-patients. Patients and families struggle to make ends meet for proper healthcare because alcohol use destroyed their life savings. And by the time they find the funds to get things going, the patient is already on the ventilator and in multiple organ failure. They use the money to bury the dead person - killed by alcohol (normalized by round-table discussions like these) and the rest of the money, go toward the fatherless childrens education. Nice going? To claim drinking alcohol in moderation is good, is actually a crime. It is a crime towards humanity, it is not in good-faith --> it is in good-faith to run the business yes, because the many people who use it occassionally, move on to frequently, and then get dependent or "routinize" it. These businessmen have nothing to lose - because they have already put up a stupid disclaimer to get away with it - "drink responsibly." So it becomes the drinkers fault. But then is it really? Drinking alcohol is a choice. But drinking more alcohol becomes "not" a choice anymore. The first drink takes your brain. It reduces brain volume, gives you a dopamine kick, makes you happy. And then onwards, you are alcohol's slave. The drinks increase. Or a routine sticks. The alcohol controls your life. You have to drink to stay happy. And then the serotonin (the actual happiness hormone, not the pleasuring one like dopamine) cease to work inside your brain and the mental health disorder that follows will swallow you whole. You die. Your family is brioken. There is no money left. If you are lucky and rich like these people sitting around this table doing this nonsense of a podcast, then you may be able to afford a lifesaving organ transplant or healthcare intervention. There is no safe level of alcohol that is good for human health and every person who claims drinking in moderation is good for you, is actually an idiot, intellectually depleted and without any regard for fellow humans and lack compassion. No amount of alcohol is safe because it is not just a liver poison, it is systemic poison. It gets to every part of your body. Even single to lowest exposure can wreck your DNA and promote cancer formation. There is scientific evidence to this. ✅️ ✅ Any amount of alcohol can increase your chances of getting at least 7 types of dreadful cancers. ➡️ & ➡️ It is not just disease causing, but alcohol use is also a societal poison. It drives people into becoming menace to society, takes lives, wrecks havoc in homes and is the real widow-maker. Have you forgotten these so quickly? 🔴The 17-year-old Pune boy, son of a renowned real-estate developer Vishal Agarwal, spent a whooping Rs 48,000 in just 90 minutes in one of the two pubs he visited on Saturday evening where he consumed alcohol with his friends before ramming his Porsche Taycan into a motorcycle, killing two young techies. and this one? India’s alcohol deaths are higher than China; per capita consumption is set to rise: WHO And please allow me refresh your memory about this patient of mine. Rich business people can sit around a table and discuss the business of alcohol and the "best alcohol" that they savor and falsely glorify and normalize alcohol use among youth, but end-of-the-line physicians like me have to bear the brunt of their intellectually deficient, a humanism lacking stupid conversations. "The 4th Laddu": Doctor Shares Emotional Post About A Patient Who Touched His Heart Also banning alcohol has NOT led to economies go into shambles. For example a recent study in the Lancet Regional Health showed that "strict alcohol regulation policies may yield significant population level health benefits for frequent drinkers and many victims of intimate partner violence." In fact, "economic savings and health benefits from reduced alcohol consumption may be substantial—particularly in the health sector with reduced alcohol-related disease and injury." So please chuck that idea that "banning/ limiting or reducing alcohol sales" actually desroys economies. In fact it improves it because you get a helathier population. See the Nordic Schema: “A comprehensive ban on alcohol marketing, enforced at the national and local level, is a best practice for reducing alcohol sales and consumption." - which means, podcasts like these, which glorify alcohol use and market it indirectly must also be burned to the ground and held accountable. There is no healthy or safe alcohol. There is no best alcohol. Alcohol is ethanol, which is a systemic and societal poison. Do not glorify it. And this why there is no "responsible drinking," because you cannot advice people to "drink poison responsibly." Podcast discussions like these are helping no one here. Please, do something that actually helps people out here. Do something good for the society, instead of goofing up like this. No one asked for this absolute bonkers of a podcast topic. Irresponsible. The whole team. For a realistic detailed discussion on alcohol and its effects on the body and why we must avoid it at all costs, please see my deep discussion with Ranveer Allahbadia here: And on that final note, I must confess that the title of podcast series (video below) was perfectly named: WTF.

The pressure on e-hailing drivers has been building for some time, and the recent escalation suggests criminals increasingly see them as soft targets. Here’s the reality of what’s happening: 1. Drivers Are Easy Targets: e-hailing drivers work alone, often at night, and accept trips from unknown passengers. Criminals exploit this by: • Requesting rides to isolated areas • Using fake or newly created accounts • Targeting drivers to steal vehicles, phones and cash. In many cases the trip itself is the setup for a robbery or hijacking. 2. Organized Patterns Emerging: We’re not only seeing opportunistic crimes...In several provinces there are signs of organized groups targeting drivers. Tactics include: • Multiple suspects posing as passengers • Coordinated robberies in specific areas • Stolen vehicles used in other crimes. Some drivers have even been kidnapped and forced to transfer money from their bank apps. 3. Limited Protection: Unlike traditional taxi structures, e-hailing drivers often operate without real-time security support. While platforms provide tracking and emergency buttons, response times are often too slow when a violent robbery unfolds. Drivers also struggle to get consistent police follow-up after incidents. 4. Why We’re Seeing an Escalation: A few factors are driving the spike: • High unemployment and economic pressure • Criminal syndicates looking for vehicles and quick cash • Weak enforcement against fraudulent e-hailing accounts. Once criminals realize a method works, it spreads quickly. 5. What Needs to Change: If this trend isn’t addressed urgently, it will worsen. Authorities and platforms need to act: • Stronger rider verification (ID checks for accounts) • Geo-fencing for high-risk zones • Dedicated police response units for e-hailing crimes • Better information sharing between SAPS and platforms. Right now drivers are essentially frontline workers without protection. *This attack took place last year.

When the young generation embrace a pseudoscience like Ayurveda. There is a huge problem in India. You may not realize it, but it is an open secret. Normalizing and glorifying “healthy alcohol consumption” seems to be the biggest social media tool that young content makers are cashing in from an ill-informed public. As a clinical Hepatologist who writes off close to five death summaries of young men aged 25 to 40 years almost every week – young productive men who have died due to alcohol use disorder and liver failure, leaving behind aging parents, creating widows or fatherless children, I sometimes feel like calling it quits. Maybe it is time to leave everyone to fend for themselves, because there is a limit to which me and other physicians can help and hope to bring a change in the people against a tsunami of disinformation that is directly harming the public health. It is like the Hydra. Cut off one disinformation, two others on the same topic comes in. And then we have young men like Shashank Sharma, this Instagram content creator and possibly an Ayurveda practitioner, who has made this video called “How to consume alcohol safely" according to the ancient traditional Indian (nonsense called) Ayurveda. This one video is enough for you to realize that Ayurveda is a pseudoscience that harms. It is a destructive professional choice for women and men studying it, because it reduces intellectual capacity, kills logical thinking, and murders rationality that students acquire in high school. The Government actively promotes it, runs large public-funded colleges to teach it to students who do not get good ranks in medical entrance examinations, but are dying to have the “Dr.” title in front of their names. Even after passing the course, the majority call themselves “doctors” instead of the traditionally given title of “Vaidya.” It is a profession solely built on the foundations of insecurity and inferiority, which is why you see Ayurveda practitioners always attacking medical science and modern medicine in India. They are trained to become blinded to truth, rabid against facts and hurtful towards those who educate the public on the harms of alternative systems of medicine. The principles that guide Ayurveda and which practitioners use to diagnose and treat misled patients – namely the theory of Vata, Pita and Kapha are part of the obsolete primal pseudoscientific ‘Humoral Theory’ that was philosophical and unscientific. It was buried once scientific discoveries progressed, germ theory evolved and the study of anatomy and physiology came into being. Essentially, this theory stated that the human body was filled with three basic substances, called three humors, which are in balance when a person is healthy. All diseases and disabilities resulted from an excess or deficit of one of these four humors – namely Vata, Pita, Kapha. Can you see how stupid that sounds now? Now the video tells us that based on the “humoral disposition” there are ways to safely consume alcohol – for example, after a hot bath and after taking sweets, alcohol damage is reduced in Pita-type people. This sounds even worse than the worst nonsense you would have ever heard. There is no safe level of alcohol and no healthy or safe way of drinking it. The human body wants to remove alcohol, a known social poison, quickly and effectively, when consumed. The body has no use for alcohol. It has no nutritive value and is all empty calories which the body does not want any of it. But here is a young Ayurveda guy, telling us how to do that safely. A slow and presumed safe exercise in “killing one softly.” Whether you consume alcohol based on Vata, Pita or Kapha or not, the harms of it include liver disease, seven types of cancer, alcohol dependence syndromes, psychiatric illnesses and suicides, heart diseases, injuries, and violence and 61 other diseases that reduce life expectancy. Terrifyingly, the incidence of severe alcohol-related liver disease is increasing rapidly, especially among females and individuals of lower socioeconomic status. We fail to implement proven and effective measures to reduce alcohol harm, usually due to lobbying and interference by the alcohol industry and because we have fools like this guy on Instagram, who dabble in pseudoscience like Ayurveda, misleading public at large. We must eliminate alcohol promotion: advertising, marketing, sponsorship and now “content creation,” to protect our fellow humans from falling into this trap. So, if you could, please do me a favor. Go to this link on his Instagram page and report this nonsense video made by this Ayurveda apologist and sympathizer, so that Instagram can remove it and take it back to the stupidest Hell-hole it emanated from. And remember, do not send your children to study Ayush courses in India. You are doing a disservice to them and to this country. The best they get from that is a dummy “Dr.” title in front of their names and the worst, they get to kill public-health.

On November 2, a tragic accident occurred near the Kengeri bus stop in Bengaluru, where a 30-year-old woman was struck by a speeding Mercedes Benz. The impact left her with severe injuries, and despite efforts by medical professionals, she sadly lost her life soon afterward. The driver of the vehicle, a 20-year-old male, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. Witnesses described the car as moving at an alarmingly high speed, suggesting a complete disregard for the safety of others on the road. The circumstances surrounding the crash have raised serious concerns about reckless driving and the dangerous consequences of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. This heartbreaking incident has sent shockwaves through the community, particularly as it happened in a busy area like Kengeri, where pedestrians and commuters are always present. The tragedy highlights the ongoing issue of drunk driving and raises questions about the enforcement of traffic laws, especially regarding young drivers and alcohol consumption. Many residents are calling for stricter penalties and stronger oversight to prevent similar incidents in the future. The loss of this young woman is a painful reminder of the risks associated with irresponsible driving, particularly when combined with alcohol. Her death has left her family and community grieving, and it emphasizes the urgent need for improved road safety measures. The incident near Kengeri bus stop serves as a call to action, urging both drivers to exercise responsibility and authorities to ensure stricter law enforcement to protect innocent lives on Bengaluru’s roads. Yesterday, an incident occurred on Bury Road involving a mother and her two children. A male approached them in a confrontational manner, causing significant concern for their safety. Footage has since emerged showing the individual hiding in a garden, apparently waiting for the woman and the children before approaching them. The woman’s partner was contacted, and the male was subsequently apprehended and taken away by police. Officers indicated that this was not the first time the individual had been arrested for similar behaviour, and that he was already subject to monitoring measures. It is now also clear from responses on social media that this individual has been very active in the area and has been causing ongoing issues for a number of residents. This raises serious concerns within our community about safety and the placement of individuals who may pose a risk to residents. Community Meeting We will be holding a community meeting on Tuesday at 7:00 PM. Please contact me or Liam Walsh for the location. Topics to be discussed: A plan of action for future incidents Setting up a community communication channel (e.g. WhatsApp group) Raising awareness within the area Engaging with local representatives to push for appropriate safety measures Ensuring residents understand how to respond safely and appropriately so that no one puts themselves at risk of arrest when dealing with incidents. All residents are encouraged to attend. Let’s work together to keep our community safe.

When The Pub Stopped Being the Center Of The Story 🍻 This is a long structural downshift in the UK’s per capita drinking that starts in the late 2000s and just keeps grinding lower, with only a brief Covid era distortion. The UK line peaks in the mid 2000s, then drops hard around the GFC window and never really rebounds. The US line, by contrast, is basically flat for decades with small wiggles, then a Covid bump and a recent pullback but nothing like the UK’s steady slide. So the story isn’t Covid changed everything. Covid just sits on top of a decline that was already baked in. How Immigration Likely Influenced It (without being the explanation) Immigration matters mostly through composition. When a country’s population mix shifts toward groups that, on average, drink less whether for cultural, religious, economic, or age structure reasons, the national per capita servings number mechanically drifts lower even if nobody else changes behavior. The UK has had a meaningful rise in the share of residents coming from (or raised within) communities where alcohol is less central to social life. That tends to show up in consumption data as a gradual, persistent down pressure on the average. Composition effects are slow. They help explain the direction and the “why doesn’t it bounce?” part. They don’t fully explain the step down you see after the mid 2000s. That sharper break looks more like economics, policy and culture all turning at once. In my opinion these are the reasons UK alcohol consumption fell this much… 1.The post 2008 squeeze changed habits and never fully reversed. When real disposable income gets pinched, people don’t just buy fewer pints they rewrite their routines. The UK’s decline lines up with that era with housing stress, austerity psychology, and a long cost of living grind that made pub as default less viable. 2. The pub stopped being the center of gravity. Pub closures, higher on trade prices, stricter norms around drinking and driving, and then later WFH and fragmented social life all hollowed out the third place. Once a culture loses a physical ritual, consumption doesn’t just fall, it becomes optional. 3. Younger cohorts are opting out and they’re not replacing older drinkers. The UK has seen a broad sober curious and health optimized shift where alcohol is increasingly viewed as a tax on sleep, training, mood, and appearance. That’s a cultural rerating, not a cyclical fluctuation. It compounds over time because each new cohort starts from a lower baseline. 4.Policy and pricing quietly did their job. Whether it’s alcohol duty, tighter enforcement, minimum pricing in parts of the UK, or just relentless price inflation in pubs, the direction of travel has made heavy drinking harder to maintain as a default lifestyle. You don’t need prohibition. You just need friction. 5.Substitution is real, even if nobody wants to say it out loud. More entertainment at home, more digital socializing, more alternative intoxicants in some demographics, and more zero and low alcohol options means the same person can still go out without stacking servings the way they did in the 90s and 2000s. Put it together and the chart reads like a quiet civilizational shift where the UK didn’t just drink less, it decentered alcohol as a social institution. Immigration likely adds steady downward pressure via demographics and norms, but the big driver is that economics rewired habits, culture rerated the payoff, and the infrastructure (the pub) lost its monopoly on social life.

“We’ve got a current Labour government headed by Keir Starmer at the moment and potentially in future headed by Andy Burnham makes no difference because both of them appear to have the same view on this and therefore the Labour government’s view won’t change and that is that they’ve decided that they can ban 16 year olds from accessing social media due to the vulnerability of their minds and how social media may well indeed manipulate their minds and due to that vulnerability. The Labour Party doesn’t want 16 or under accessing social media. Meanwhile, an 11 year old, according to the Labour Party, does have the mental capacity to decide that they are not a boy or that they are not a girl, that they’ve been born in the wrong body and that they can irreversibly alter the way that their body grows their sexual organs by stopping and blocking puberty chemically. So an 11 year old can make that decision. But at the same time, a 16 or 15 year old can’t access social media. It is a very, very strange position that the Labour government has taken, explained by the facts, of course, as you saw Andy Burnham there giving £100,000 as a grant as mayor of Manchester to an organisation that was lobbying for this change. Also explained by the fact that Keir Starmer and the Labour government clearly don’t care about the mental wellbeing of children, otherwise they wouldn’t be allowing 11 year olds to block their own puberty. And so this online safety in 16 year olds, what that’s really about is introducing digital ID for every single citizen by stealth, using the name of the children and protecting the children as the excuse.” Maajid Nawaz for WARRIOR CREED

Three men have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a 35-year-old woman in #Karnataka’s #Hubballi on Friday night and circulating videos of the sexual assault on social media. Police Commissioner N Shashi Kumar identified the men as Shivanand, 29, Ganesh, 31, and Pradeep, 28—all residents of Hubballi. According to a police officer, the accused picked up the woman from the #Heggeri area, took her to an isolated location in an autorickshaw, sexually assaulted her, and forced her to drink alcohol around 11.30 pm. They shot videos and photographs of the assault, later sharing them on social media platforms. Local residents who learnt about the incident from the videos allegedly assaulted the accused, shaved their heads, and handed them over to the police. Shashi Kumar told the media on Sunday that the woman had arrived in Hubballi approximately one and a half months ago after her husband had been jailed in a domestic violence case. She had been homeless since, spending nights outside temples and on streets, surviving on food provided at the #SiddharoodhaMutt and other religious places. “The accused watched the woman roaming in the area and lured her offering money and food. Then they took her to an isolated place to gang-rape her. They also recorded videos and shared them on social media,” Shashi Kumar said. Shashi Kumar said that Shivanand and Ganesh were booked for the gang rape, while Pradeep has been accused of circulating the video on social media. While the locals assaulted Ganesh and Shivanand, a case was registered against the locals on Shivanand’s complaint. Four of the locals have been taken into custody. Shashi Kumar said he would hold discussions with the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal corporation commissioner and officials of the women and child welfare department to explore measures to provide the woman with shelter and support her. A police officer said the woman hails from #Shivamogga district and that she had filed a domestic violence case against her husband a few months ago. After her husband’s arrest, she moved to Hubballi, the officer added. The police said investigations were underway in the gang rape case.
