Ball Carrier Mesh Fundamentals - The potential ball carrier is the one that is responsible for his track. He needs to make sure his is at the mesh point that the QB is creating. - He must maintain a pocket that is firm enough to secure the ball but loose enough that the QB can pull the ball if the read is a pull read. - Do not deviate from the track until you fully clear the mesh. - If you do not get the ball then track away from the HOK and make him chase you. Motion Fundamentals - All of our motions start up at FULL SPEED! It is incredibly important to make every motion at full speed so the QB has a consistent timing. - The QB is responsible for sending the motion back on every play except for the triple option. - This allows us to control each motion easier. - Every Jet motion should be timed as if the jet back was getting the ball regardless of play. - The motion back will change his depth based on play. - This allows us to use motion with a multitude of schemes. - The motion stops at different spots on different plays and each perimeter player must understand where he should stop for each play.

Today is one of those days where we forget everything that we have practiced and everyone is trying to win the game for the team. It snowballs into terrible mistakes that they feel really bad for. It seems to be that in grand finals, the team that plays tighter, in a sense, because we play a very loose style, and this thing backfires on us when it matters the most sometimes. Unfortunately, it's a live by the sword, die by the sword kind of thing for us. We'll have to figure out how to make sure that when we arrive in grand finals, we can still keep the same play style without having the weight of expectation on our own shoulders. To the small island who once ruled the world… come the men who do. 24 years ago, Nike released this advert. It’s trending on social media again. I watched it this morning and it made me cry. I bumped into a neighbour yesterday who has lived in South Africa for 5 years and we were talking about the upcoming game. She’s heading down to our Clubhouse to watch it… as most of us are. And she was telling me how excited she is for South Africa. She’s originally from America but will be wearing her Green and Gold tonight. We started talking about the heart of rugby in our country. You see, the Bokke don’t just play a sport, they play with everything they have. They play for every single South African. They play to remind us who we are. And they play to show us who we can be. My neighbour said, “There is no other nation that does that. It’s so beautiful.” She ignited a core memory in me. It was 1995. The Rugby World Cup was the first major sporting event to take place in South Africa following the end of apartheid. We were the hosts. It was also the first World Cup in which we were allowed to compete. I was sitting on the floor with my brother and sister watching. My folks were on the couch. There was this intense feeling of trepidation. We needed to win. Our country needed to win. “But how do you remember that? You must have been so young?” My neighbour asked. Because it was the first time we felt like one nation. Undivided. It was the first time our country was standing behind a new president and a new flag - together. Nelson Mandela made us believe that we were the rainbow nation. He gave us hope that as a country, we could become more than what we were before. We could rewrite our history. When that last whistle blew our entire team dropped to their knees crying, the crowd flying the new South African flags higher than high and then Nelson Mandela made his way to the pitch to meet Francois Pienaar. Something was ignited in us all. The spirit and heart of how rugby brings South Africans together. So ja, our team don’t just play a sport. They play with everything they have. They play for every single South African. They play to remind us who we are. And they play to show us who we can be. Win or lose, they play to bring us together. Dillingham went on to say that he loves recruiting athletes who can play multiple sports, especially basketball. "I love guys who play basketball. Mesh with the RB while reading the DE. The DE must squeeze hard enough to tackle the RB in order for you to pull the ball. If he does pull and seed the ball at your chest. Attack the pitch key's outside shoulder (1st man outside the tackle box). If he darts to the slot keep the ball. If he stays with you, pitch the ball and avoid the hit. -Running Back Fundamentals... Take 2 shuffle steps for depth (almost like a OT pass set). Wait for the ball to be brought back to you. Once it is, track behind your pullers making sure to keep a big pocket so the QB can get a good mesh. Once you get the ball follow your pulling tackle and fit off of his block. Get upfield at the first opportunity. -Slot Fundamentals... The motion timing is on the slot on this play. Motion as late as possible to still get in pitch position (we would try to motion at the snap on this play but depending on how fast each slot is they may have to cheat it a bit). Motion at the QB's heals and run full speed. Once you get into pitch phase yell for the ball to let the QB know you are there and stay in pitch phase till you get the ball. -Perimeter Blocking - On this play we will switch block with our WR and Slot. That means the WR is going to block the high safety and the Slot will block the corner. We leave the OLB as the pitch key. We still want to make sure we are square to the man we are blocking so the slot will go flat down the LOS until he gets to the same vertical plane as the corner and then he will climb to block him.
