In a new study from MIT and the University of Queensland, 272 international experts were asked to judge the biggest risks from AI between now and 2030. They concluded that 18 of the 24 risks they looked at each carry at least a 1 in 10 chance of a catastrophic outcome, which they defined as something that kills more than a million people or wipes out more than 100 billion dollars. The risks they worried about most were not science fiction robots. They were AI being used to build weapons, launch large scale cyberattacks, and concentrate power and money in very few hands. None of this is a prediction that it will happen. It is a measure of how seriously the field's own experts take the danger. And the numbers are not small.

Will Ray (Wake Forest Baseball) was one of the most dominant relievers on the Cape this summer. The former two-way showcased a high 80s - low 90s sinker from a sidearm slot with plenty of run and a sweeping slider that limited hitters to an average of 68.2 mph EV and a 0.59 xFIP (per Anthony Marotta as of 7/19). It's a plus pitch that was used more than the sinker and acts as his best offering. He also mixed in a splitter with some sink to get miss in and out of the zone. He appeared in 14 games for the Whitecaps on the Cape, limiting hard contact and base-runners with a 1.18 WHIP, 23 K/2 BB in 22 IP. Ray's stuff played well in the lower half of the zone but was susceptible to the long ball at times. Perhaps adding a four-seam FB that could get some chase at the top of the zone could help his overall profile. As of 7/23, Ray was 100th percentile in hard-hit % and 93rd percentile in opponent average exit speed (per Anthony Marotta). Ray made significant progress in his control and as a result, dropped his 4.9 BB/9 in 44 IP last spring to just 0.8 BB/9 in 22 IP this summer in the CCBL. He was able to make some of the top offensive college bats look foolish (Kurland - sinker, Burress - slider, Martinez - splitter; shown below).

The importance of pointing the AirFanta Wear personal air purifier accurately. You need to point the center of the Wear's airflow at your breathing zone. Otherwise you won't get any benefit from the device. This is just a visualization using the mist from an ultrasonic nebulizer to stand in for unfiltered ambient air. In the demonstration the air is not completely still due to the output of the nebulizer. But the air flow may be similar to cross currents that might be found in indoor settings. AirFanta has shown a number of different ways to position the Wear, but hasn't given exact numbers for distance as far as I know. I'm using a distance of 2 inches or less as a rule of thumb, with the center of the device pointed at my breathing zone. The 3/4 position feels like it's one that people may be the most interested in because it can let you eat while at the same time maintaining a close proximity to the output. The Wear is not meant as a one-to-one replacement for a respirator grade mask. It's best for situations where you were not going to be wearing a mask at all, but would still like to breathe cleaner air. Avoid risk compensation, which is where you take on more risk because you think you are more protected than you actually are. For instance, visiting a nephew sick with measles without an N95 mask because you think the Wear will give you equal protection. Maintaining the correct distance and orientation between the Wear and your breathing zone requires conscious effort. The Wear can reduce your overall exposure to airborne contaminants, but it needs to be used very close to breathing zone and needs to be very accurately centered.

From a sheer stuff standpoint, RHP Cam Leiter (FSU Baseball) has one of the loudest arsenals in this year's Draft class. Was a member of the AAC All-Freshman team selection in 2023 after posting a 4.92 ERA with 80 Ks across 56.2 IP. Leiter's first season at FSU was cut short due to injury, though he showed big time flashes in his 7 starts (35 innings). Worked a 4.63 ERA with 56 Ks to 22 BB. Leiter has a high-waisted, prototypical pitcher's frame at 6'5" and 234-pounds. Has added physicality year-over-year. Compact and explosive delivery with big time arm speed. Attacks from a three-quarter slot with a low release height. Dynamic mover, blocks well with his lead leg and really drives his back hip through. Powerful! Fastball sits in the 94-96 range, but has been up to 99. Jumps out of the hand from his ~5'10" release height and flashes riding life through the zone. Plays up—and is at its best—when located in the top-half of the zone. Also where it gets the most whiffs, and last year it generated a 30% miss rate. Improved command of the offering will make it that much more effective. 55 right now. His most used breaking ball is a high-70s-to-low-80s CB. Plenty of depth with sharp, downward teeth. Almost a true 12-to-6 shape. Will use it against both right and lefthanded hitters, and last year it held opposing hitters to a minuscule .071 average. Generated an impressive 46% miss rate, it's a 60 right now. Leiter's upper-80s-to-low-90s power SL is another effective off-speed offering. Late lateral tilt with some depth, will throw it almost exclusively to RHH. Another pitch that flashes plus, and last year it garnered a 38% miss rate. He threw it just 11% of the time in '24, but Leiter also features an upper-80s-to-low-90s CH. Ample fade to the arm side, though at times it will have more tumbling life than fade. Not to sound like a broken record, but Leiter's CH also flashes plus. 44% miss rate last season. Throws it with conviction. If you catch Leiter on the right day, you could leave the yard with a 55 and three 60s on his pitch mix. The two biggest keys for Leiter will be taking a step forward in the pitchability department—which in turn will make his arsenal that much better—and staying healthy. It is the greatest mass migration of animals on the planet, and it happens twice a day. The vertical motion of the copepods moves just about as much water as the moon and the tides. The copepods eat 30 times more carbon than humanity generates from burning fossil fuels, and about 6%, or 3 gigatons, of their dead bodies and poop end up in the world’s largest carbon bank, the Abyss. The Abyss contains 500m to 1000’s of meters thick layer of organic carbon / mineral sludge with an area greater area than dry land on the planet. Yet humanity has wiped out more than 50% of marine plankton productivity over the last 70 years due to chemical and particle pollution. We have also wiped out 50% of Arctic krill, which are just as important. and we are now even contemplating dredging the ocean floor! We would not have had climate change if we had not poisoned and destroyed most of the world’s oceans. By 2045, the destruction will be complete unless we act now to stop the inevitable annihilation of nature and life on Earth. Let’s put things into perspective, in comparison to protecting nature, carbon mitigation, windmills and electric cars are almost a joke. Shifting focus to 2025, RHP Tyler Bremner (UC Santa Barbara Baseball) is one of my favorite College arms in the class. As a freshman, Bremner split time between the bullpen and the rotation and pitched his way to a modest 5.37 ERA with an impressive strikeout-to-walk ratio of 80-to-17 across 55.1 innings. Bremner has a lean, athletic build at 6'2" and 180-lbs. He has room to fill out physically and as he does, his already-electric stuff will only tick up. Bremner has a low maintenance, under control operation with present arm speed. He attacks hitters from a high-three quarter slot and his fastball sits in the 93-96 range and tops out at 98. It has elite riding life (averaged over 21" of IVB in '23) and is most effective when located in the top-half of the zone. Between its velocity and shape, it is a 60-grade offering. He boasts two quality secondary offerings in a mid-80s changeup and low-80s slider. Bremner’s changeup is the more polished of the two, but his sweeping slider has plus potential. In 2023, Bremner’s changeup generated an impressive 48% miss rate. He has advanced feel for the offering, and he will throw it to both left and righthanded hitters. It plays well off his mid-90s fastball and flashes big time late tumbling life and some fade to the arm side. Bremner threw his slider just 12% of the time in 2023, but it has the chance to be a true out pitch in the future. It features ample late sweeping life as well as some depth, and is a real weapon especially against righthanded hitters. It has reportedly taken a step forward this fall and could be a lethal offering in 2024. Between his plus control, low effort delivery, and the chance to have three plus or better pitches, Bremner profiles as a starter professionally. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) is approaching oversold conditions and retail interest is absent. However every on chain metric is hitting an all time high. - There are almost 35.5 million ETH staked. - Stablecoins on Ethereum have surpassed $158 billion. Tbh ETH exchange reserves are at their lowest since 2016. Spot ETH ETFs have attracted $11.6 billion in total net inflows. The network is more used, more secure and more embedded in institutions than ever yet the price remains in the fear zone. That disparity outlines the whole Ethereum narrative in 2026. - Pectra launched in May 2025 increasing the validator cap from 32 to 2,048 ETH. - Fusaka followed in December. - Glamsterdam is set for the first half of 2026 aiming for 10,000 transactions per second and over 78% reduction in gas fees through full account abstraction. - Hegota arrives in the second half with Verkle Trees pushing towards a stateless Ethereum. This upgrade pace is not slowing down. And the good thing is institutional side looks promising too. Ethereum Foundation staked 70,000 ETH in April 2026. This shift from selling ETH to fund operations to earning staking yield is significant. Yet there is an uncomfortable truth that many ignore → Layer 2 solutions like Base keep most fee revenue instead of returning it to ETH holders. Standard Chartered estimated that Base alone took $50 billion from ETH market cap. Increased Layer 2 activity does not directly translate to higher ETH value. So far this issue is unresolved concern underlying every optimistic outlook. The bullish scenario here is hinges on Glamsterdam delivering results, ETF inflows returning and the Federal Reserve lowering rates. and the bearish scenario suggests that Layer 2 value capture issue remains unresolved. Its crazy that the divergence between fundamentals and price is not a temporary dislocation but a structural issue. Right now the critical level to watch is $2,080. If it drops below that the bearish case becomes serious. Honestly fundamentals keep getting stronger while the price continues lagging behind. Next six months will determine which perspective will prevail.

RHP Cole Leaman (Lehigh Baseball) is an arm I'm really looking forward to following this spring. Fresh off a strong Sophomore season in which he worked a 2.31 ERA with 49 Ks to 23 BB across 46.2 IP. Showed some positive flashes on the Cape. While slightly undersized, Leaman has a strong and athletic build at 6' and 190-lbs. Has put on a lot of good weight over the last couple of years. Leaman has almost a "check point" delivery in which he takes a noticeable side step towards the 1B side, gathers himself and breaks into the rest of his motion. Lengthy arm stroke and attacks from a high-3/4 slot from a low release height. Leaman is a high-level athlete and a dynamic mover on the mound. Sits really well on his back glute and his lead leg block enables him to generate power and drive his back side through. Drop and drive delivery. Little bit of effort, but plenty of arm speed. Leaman's FB sits in the 91-94 range, but it was up to 96 this summer and 98 this fall. Jumps out of his hand from a ~5'3" release height and flashes riding life through the zone. Averaged 15" of carry this summer and 2,361 RPMs. Gets over the barrels of opposing hitters when located in the top-1/2 of the zone, which is where the pitch is at its best. Command can be erratic at times. Would give it a 55. Leaman's most-used off speed pitch is a high-70s-to-low-80s CB. Shape is inconsistent and it can get a little slurvy at times, but he snapped off a handful of really good ones between the spring and summer. When it's at its best, it will flash a bigger shape with sharp, downward tilt. Leaman will also mix in a low-to-mid-80s SL that's distinct in shape. Another pitch he's still gaining a feel for, but like his CB it's also shown big time flashes. Shape of it will vary, but it will sometimes flash plus with sharp, two-plane break (more sweep than depth) and essentially take a late, hard left turn. Rounds out his arsenal with a high-80s cutter and a mid-to-high-80s CH. The former is more intriguing than the latter. Curious to see how much he uses the cutter this spring, threw a couple this summer that had late glove-side life. Leaman has a very intriguing blend of athleticism and stuff, though he'll need to iron out his command and control in order to maximize his upside. Don't train the model, evolve the harness. I read a brilliant blog post from Hugging Face where they took a frozen open model scoring 0% on a hard legal agent benchmark, left its weights alone, and let an automated loop rewrite only the code around it. That code layer is the harness, the runtime wrapper that feeds the model context, runs its tool calls, and decides when a run ends. By the time the loop finished, the system had essentially matched Sonnet 4.6 on the benchmark's headline metric, at roughly 7x lower cost per task. Zero weights changed. The gain existed because of where the model was failing. The judge only grades files saved in the right place under the exact requested filename, and the model kept doing the legal analysis correctly, then saving it under the wrong name, dropping it in a scratch folder, or never writing it at all. So the 0% was never measuring legal reasoning. It was measuring the harness. Hand-tuning that layer is slow and model-specific, so they automated it. A Claude proposer adds exactly one mechanism per iteration, and an outer loop keeps it only if it clearly beats the current best, so accepted mechanisms compound. What the loop discovered says a lot about where agents actually fail. → The biggest single gain was file handling, not intelligence. An automatic step that lands the deliverable exactly where the judge expects it beat every prompt change, with zero extra model tokens. → Code fixes transferred across models, prompt playbooks did not. The same harness lifted a smaller model from the same family by 14 points, but the tuned prompts hurt a different model family on tasks it could already finish. → The harness mattered more than anything else. Same model, same judge, same tasks, and five different harnesses scored anywhere between 3.5% and 80.1%. The gains do eventually flatten, and the remaining misses look like real capability gaps. At some point the wrapper runs out of tricks and the model has to carry the work. But the lesson holds. A benchmark score measures the model and its harness together, and until the harness is fixed, it's impossible to know which one failed. Nturo, a martyred village, evacuated three times in 30 years (Original in French published yesterday) The village of Nturo tragically illustrates the fate of Congolese Tutsis. Three times since 1994, these cattle herders have been forced to abandon their lands. Stolen cattle were slaughtered in abattoirs funded by international aid! Stripped of their belongings and threatened with death simply for being Tutsis - and for the génocidaires, it was about finishing the “job” - they were forced to seek refuge in Rwanda or Uganda, where they lived in camps for years. On October 5, 2023, the village was set ablaze by the Hutu Nyatura militia, the FDLR, and the FARDC. Burundian troops, present as part of one of the many “peace agreements,” were camped on a hill just a few hundred meters away. If Hank Brennan’s inflammatory claims about the defense & the ARCCA experts were true and accurate, why were NONE of those issues raised or even mentioned in his Motion to Exclude ARCCA Experts, or any court documents whatsoever? He stated that he received that information on February 13, 2025, nearly a week before Tuesday’s motions hearing, but you’re telling me that this guy wasn’t chomping at the bit to put ANY of this in a motion? Sure—and I’ve got a bridge to sell you. Why did Brennan file no affidavit of factual support, pursuant to Rule 13(a)(2) outlining any of these damning claims? Maybe because then he’d be bound under the pains & penalties of perjury which would make it much harder for him to hide behind “I misspoke” when his lies are confronted by the truth. Furthermore, if Brennan’s oh so damning claims of impropriety were true, then surely he would’ve included them in his Motion for Sanctions on the Defense, right? Especially given the fact that he filed his sanctions motion with the court (on 2/14/25) AFTER he’d already received said damning information (on 2/13/25), and from the defense themselves no less 😂. Certainly, if Brennan’s claims were true, and not him trying to distract & obfuscate from the mountain of Brady violations the prosecution is drowning in by playing to “the audience on the right,” there’s absolutely no chance he’d leave that information out of his Motion for Sanctions, but yet it is nowhere to be found. Judge Beverly Cannone yet again revealed her bias and partiality—eating up every morsel of Hank Brennan’s unsubstantiated say-so, which is curiously outlined in NO court documents whatsoever by the Commonwealth. She piped up the theatrics without asking any questions or allowing the defense to respond or be heard. There are rules of criminal procedure for a reason and prosecutors have ethical obligations. Hank Brennan has repeatedly failed to abide by MA Rules of Criminal Procedure, specifically Rule 13(a)(2), obligating him to file an affidavit of factual support, which in part exists to keep attorneys honest & hold them accountable to the truth. This, of course, is why he rarely files them. On a side note: speaking of affidavits, you know who’s never submitted any affidavits, signed & sworn to under the pains and penalties of perjury? Jessica Hyde and Ian Whiffin. On the contrary, Richard Green has submitted at least 4 affidavits. The entire objective of Brennan’s PR stunt on Tuesday was to taint the jury pool by trying to make the defense attorneys look as sleazy as him so that any potential jurors will be less inclined to believe what the defense says, and attack the integrity of the ARCCA experts because he can’t meet them on the facts & they destroy his case. And much of the local + mainstream news media bought it hook, line & sinker. Nearly every headline is running with Brennan’s unverified word salad. It’s in the press & news media, and potential jurors have seen it. The damage is done, and because Judge Cannone was seemingly complicit in this charade of theatrics, she allowed Brennan’s lie to go unchecked. She’s seen no affidavit from him signed under the pains & penalties of perjury showing factual support of anything he said on Tuesday. So why is she so inclined to believe him? With a Judge so eager to indict Attorney Alan Jackson, Karen Read & her defense team for seemingly inexplicable personal reasons, based on nothing more than a hyperbolic emotional argument—which as it turns out was later revealed to be entirely false & inaccurate during that same hearing—and based on no real argument elaborated anywhere in any court documents by the Commonwealth, Judge Cannone confirmed once again that she lacks judicial temperament & is unfit to be presiding over this case. Judge Cannone is supposed to protect Karen Read’s right to a fair trial. Instead, she’s ensuring that Karen Read will never get a fair trial. Do you think any media outlets are going to issue retractions when Alan Jackson/defense counsel is absolved? Of course not! And by that point, the damage has already been done. Judge Cannone left the casual observer + news audience with a very prejudicial impression of the defense, seeking no follow up and affording no due process for the defense to be heard. A lie unchecked becomes the truth, and Judge Cannone knew that allowing Hank Brennan’s lie to go unchecked for a week would be extremely damaging to the defense in the lead up to trial. Why is she so apt to believe that defense counsel is somehow nefarious or dishonest when 3,000+ pages of Touhy evidence provided by the ongoing federal investigation—into THIS DA’s Office and THESE third party culprits—exposed an overwhelming number of the Commonwealth’s lies and verified that this is factually a malicious prosecution? Touhy evidence that only verified and corroborated the veracity of the defense and its case. ———— But, don’t take my word for it. Look at Hank Brennan’s own words in his Motion to Exclude ARCCA Experts and his Motion for Sanctions (attached below in comments). Let me know where, if anywhere, you find any of these damning claims (hint: you won’t). Look at the docket of all recent filings (attached) and let me know where, if anywhere, you see any affidavit of factual support for Brennan’s ARCCA expert exclusion argument that he made Tuesday (hint: you won’t). And it’s not due to lack of time, as he had nearly a week to file any of this information in a court document. Yet, he chose not to do that. What does that tell you? With a Judge so eager to indict Attorney Alan Jackson, Karen Read & her defense team for seemingly inexplicable personal reasons, based on nothing more than a hyperbolic emotional argument—which as it turns out was later revealed to be entirely false & inaccurate during that same hearing—and based on no real argument elaborated anywhere in any court documents by the Commonwealth, Judge Cannone confirmed once again that she lacks judicial temperament & is unfit to be presiding over this case. Judge Cannone is supposed to protect Karen Read’s right to a fair trial. Instead, she’s ensuring that Karen Read will never get a fair trial. Do you think any media outlets are going to issue retractions when Alan Jackson/defense counsel is absolved? Of course not! And by that point, the damage has already been done. Judge Cannone left the casual observer + news audience with a very prejudicial impression of the defense, seeking no follow up and affording no due process for the defense to be heard. A lie unchecked becomes the truth, and Judge Cannone knew that allowing Hank Brennan’s lie to go unchecked for a week would be extremely damaging to the defense in the lead up to trial. Why is she so apt to believe that defense counsel is somehow nefarious or dishonest when 3,000+ pages of Touhy evidence provided by the ongoing federal investigation—into THIS DA’s Office and THESE third party culprits—exposed an overwhelming number of the Commonwealth’s lies and verified that this is factually a malicious prosecution? Touhy evidence that only verified and corroborated the veracity of the defense and its case. ———— But, don’t take my word for it. Look at Hank Brennan’s own words in his Motion to Exclude ARCCA Experts and his Motion for Sanctions (attached below in comments). Let me know where, if anywhere, you find any of these damning claims (hint: you won’t). Look at the docket of all recent filings (attached) and let me know where, if anywhere, you see any affidavit of factual support for Brennan’s ARCCA expert exclusion argument that he made Tuesday (hint: you won’t). And it’s not due to lack of time, as he had nearly a week to file any of this information in a court document. Yet, he chose not to do that. What does that tell you?
