Unlike Chloe, crazy Johnny, like a broken clock can be right at least sometimes. Listen to Kiwi Legend Ruth Tipu who repeatedly picked up the flag at a Nelson art exhibition which has led to the art gallery to remove the ‘art work’ that encouraged people to walk on the flag. This is one of the best interviews I’ve heard, a proud kiwi with commonsense and values who happens to also be Māori. Ruth explains that she chooses to move forward yes some things were not great in the past but why carry that with you? “My Koro fought under that flag and loved his county, Māori people and European we all came together under that flag, I know who I am we all mixed blood”. The nearly 86 year old Ex Labour MP, Maori affairs Minister Dover Samuels tells Laws : “Shane Jones called me to come to this hikoi in Kaikohe to wake up this bloody ngapuhi iwi to the atrocities happening to our kids, but no bugger wants to do anything about it especially Māori themselves. As far as ngapuhi leadership is converned I have no faith in the born again unelected kaumātuas. Shane and I tried to shake them up about the issue but they got offended. They are too busy talking about themselves and hikois for the treaty when nothing was going to bloody happen, meanwhile the murder of children is going on under our roofs, smoking P is the culture. 🚩Winston Peters this morning attacked National for signing the dodgy Indian deal that heavily favours India and shockingly undermines our sovereignty. On top of the increase in immigration and deindustrialisation that this deal brings NZ, it also dictates that NZ reaffirm its commitment to the Paris Agreement (from which India is largely exempt) & UNDRIP which India itself rejects. “No, not that!” 📍 That was Speaker Gerry Brownlee’s order yesterday afternoon as a spontaneous haka erupted from the public gallery — following a stirring waiata performed across Parliament to honour new Te Pāti Māori MP Oriini Kaipara, after her maiden speech. Rather than allowing a moment of Māori pride and collective tikanga to play out naturally, Brownlee instead chose to shut it down — jumping straight to suspending Parliament. Undeterred, supporters simply carried on as he left the House, performing two haka in Kaipara’s honour. Yes, there are rules. Yes, the Speaker had approved one waiata only. Yes, Kaipara went four minutes over her allotted time — already testing his patience. And yes, he’d been given a guarantee that a haka would not be performed. But none of that justifies what followed. It’s also worth remembering there’s no proof this was a planned act of defiance by TPM — it was Kaipara’s own whānau and supporters who broke into haka, collectively following standard tikanga Māori protocol. Te Pāti Māori may well have advised against it, but in that moment, realistically, who could have stopped them? Across te ao Māori over the past 24 hours, the response has been clear: haka following waiata is perfectly normal. It’s an organic expression of unity and emotion — not disruption, let alone defiance. The question has to be asked: what exactly is the threat here? Why does tikanga Māori continue to unsettle the House so deeply? Since when did it become acceptable for the Speaker to shut down standard cultural practice, insulting a new MP, her whānau and supporters in the process? Surely, allowing the haka to finish would have been a far more productive — not to mention respectful — use of the House’s time. Still, Brownlee has called the haka “contemptuous,” and has since launched an investigation. According to 1News’ Maiki Sherman, he’s requested a meeting with Te Pāti Māori co-leaders next week. Peters instructed him to research the corruption in the Govt bureaucracy in the Māori units and as Laws says “Winston did a phenomenal job getting this into the political conversation” and this is exactly still where we are today, the same place as 40 years ago, because the activist bureaucracy is still thriving. Fascinating historical perspective, Laws rightly identifies the Lange govt first ushered in ‘affirmative action’ which is really reverse racism. The 4th Labour govt replaced the Muldoon administration a new breed of politicians gone were the practical (many served in WW2) pragmatic generation and replaced by the Uni educated trendy generation who were total ideologues - cue Helen Clark. None of these ‘equity’ neo marxist left strategies have worked. As Laws points out nearly every metric for Māori has gotten worse over the past 40 years. In the late 80’s Winston Peters was the most preferred PM, our polling Lange and Bolger, because he busted apart the myth that Māori can’t achieve anything without a hang out and a hand up. Dee Dahl last week at the University of Canterbury heralds the introduction of compulsory ‘Tikanga’ for law students, and it will be ‘woven’ (there’s that term again) throughout the curriculum to ensure lawyers see law through ‘a Māori lens’ or Te Ao Māori. In effect it’s more Marxist claptrap, but is infinitely dangerous . The changes were put into effect by NZ Council of Legal Education an independent body statutory body. In NZ parliament is sovereign, not the judiciary. You’d think with Seymour an associate education minister he’d have pulled strings to circumvent the complete radicalisation of the Judiciary. But here we are. Just weeks ago Judith Collins castigated Shane Jones for stating that our judiciary is full of Marxist totalitarians, and you know he was dead right. It’s pretty well described in the clip, but some highlights are - he is proudly Māori, he says colonialists are to blame for Sexual disease, he admits he’s been through a Tikanga restorative justice process* and his time as an MP he will be held to account, by … his kid. It’s been 18months and the Health Minister still doesn’t have an opinion on whether race based program acceptance is a good idea or not ? Pathetic ! My fear is the Nats will use Acts agreement as an out clause to arrive at a conclusion that race can indeed trump academic merit…. and In medicine of all things. I personally know of a non Māori/pacifica student gaining a 98% pass and not being accepted into med school here, so off they went overseas, never to come back. This is happening at the same time National has allowed recognition of foreign gained lucky dip medical degrees from new immigrants. Nuts. Simeon is a capable MP, some say he is too inexperienced, the best advice I can can give him to squash that argument is grow a backbone and avoid becoming a mouth piece for nowhere man Luxon, and maybe consider leaving National for a party more aligned to his own principles. 9 months ago, Green Party MP Benjamin Doyle was in the news for not wearing a seatbelt in the back of a taxi. It was reported by Stuff, ZB, RNZ and the NZ Herald. Te Pāti Māori General Manager Kiri Tamihere, has just shared footage on social media of her in the front seat of a car on the open road with seemingly no seatbelt on, as she records her husband attempting and failing to tip water from a drink bottle on the outside of the windscreen with one hand , while driving with the other. Waititi is clearly distracted and looking down as another car flies past. This looks reckless and dangerous. Māori are disproportionately affected by car accidents, resulting in higher rates of serious injury and death compared to the total population. The press gallery should be all over this, given their response to the Doyle incident.

Harete Hipango Brownlee ex Nats MP and now NZ First member, says it’s time for a referendum on the Māori seats.
