Fifty years ago today Phil Edmonds made a dramatic entry to Test cricket, taking 5 for 28 on debut including 3 for 4 in his first 15 deliveries, England v Australia, 3rd Test, Leeds, August 15th 1975

Jim Laker world class commentator along with Benaud of course

He was a real fave player of mine. I think England massively under used him and went for Mr dependable John Emburey who in my opinion had no where near the skill set of PE

Agree. Edmonds was undoubtedly a handful to captain - Brearley could handle him most of the time - but Emburey a safer option. No question who I preferred to watch when I was watching Middlesex

Such a classical bowling action for a left arm spinner

Was that the test when the pitch was dug up on the last day

Was that the George Davis abandoned test?

And then one G Davis reared his head and PHE wasn’t able to bowl on a length second time around ?

I was there that day

Not a lid or box amongst them. Safety in Cricket!!

No helmets but certainly boxes

Not 1975 but I remember Phil Edmonds at one end then John Emburery at the other end. Loved every second. Proper test match cricket

One of my favourite English cricketers. Could watch him bowl all day. 🇦🇺

He only got1/5 out, the rest all bethnelled themselves

Quality bowler, I used to love watching him play.

Phillipe

The 1975 Dom Bess. 5-fer with two from half trackers and one from a full toss.

Protestors dug up the pitch overnight, but it poured with rain next day from about midday, which rather "dampened" their protest. It would have been a draw anyway!

I forgot what a lovely bowling action he had.

On occasion Edmonds would bowl bouncers, even though the 'keeper was still stood up to the wicket. I remember Bob Taylor (who really was an excellent 'keeper, about as good as Knott though the latter was the better batsman) having to take a few of them.

One of my favourites, maverick performer, great times.

Shocking standard and umpiring.

Edmonds & Embury.. what a couple of geniuses

Great, classical SLA action. Only Bishen Bedi had better
