Fighting Humanoid Robots - REK @RobotKombat Chapter 2 - Move Mr Robot 🧵below

First up we developed a VR app that replaced the controller to run him around using the analog sticks. Allowed me to follow the robot while maintaining visibility. It was more stable than the remote.

Next up I took it off the protective rack and ran him around, trying to emulate a rocky style "training" montage. People were starting to see the direction I was going.

Then we started building an augmented reality "hologram" interface to send the robot commands with visuals. With huge thanks to @theivanmotta

We then integrated the camera feed into the robot with significant work to reduce the compute and latency used by the camera to emulate a "jack in" interface.

We then discovered how to run both upper body and lower body commands at the same time. With no help from *cough* documentation.

We then used a VR treadmill to map the lower body movements to the robot while the person was walking.

Did a bunch of changes to the safety checks to allow the upper body to move quickly. The software did not want us to do this.

I setup a "mixed reality" view so we could see the person in the headset and what they were doing in real-time.

We had so many people on Twitter talking about fighting robots so we front ran a teaser showing two robots activate with a face off. Announcing REK @RobotKombat for the first time.

We then dropped our "trailer" which was a MASSIVE amount of work. So please give it some social media love.
