Figured I’d put together a comparison.

So apparently (IDK exactly how true this is) but When Pixar Released the film on Videocassette and other home video formats up to the 4k bluray, SUPPOSEDLY they have just been Re-Rendering the film each time, and because of advances in their software it ends up affecting the lighting and some texturework in the film. I had also heard that this is what they have done with all of their films, rather than going to an original negative for a remaster or whatever, they just re-render the films, which on the one hand would provide the cleanest transfer, but would also not be exactly pure to the original print.

You're a goat for keeping the "howdy howdy howdy" part for real.

I KNEW I WASNT CRAZY WHEN I THOUGHT REX USED TO BE A DARKER GREEN

I think I grew up with the above version rather than the below version, yet somehow, the original VHS tape that I have that I grew up with shows more of the below version.

It's interesting that the DVD versions of the film had a lot of mistakes and miscolors and the only version that fixes this is the now rather obscure 3D version of the movie.

Awesome comparison! Shows the strengths of both really well.

girl look at the detail on rex in the older version

Which one is supposed to be better?

Original trailer from 1995 looks the same like 35mm scan. So this seems the original aesthetic and not some fan fever...and also not 35mm old and degenerate scan...

Which one is which asshole?

It is fascinating to see the visual differences side-by-side like this!

@SrWilsonCCA @CanellaMatheus acho que isso te interessa

The colour grade of the bottom one looks terrible tbh

Up is better

I prefer Buzz's darker green and purple, which is closer to his Ts3-Ts4 palette.

I've been a little confused as to see many clips of toy story 1. Why has this been going around exactly?

I want to watch the lower version

I feel like an ai joke could be made about the yellowing on the 30mm

The color yellow just doesn’t exist in the 35mm and that’s hilariously stupid

What versions are you comparing here? 35mm to Blu-ray or 35 mm to 4K?

o brilho amarelado e excessivo do 1° filme sempre me incomodou

Just check out the difference in realism between the theatrical DCP and the 35mm scan

Isn't this just the vhs version?

Ok some real shit smacked the fuck out of woody and it kills me every time

Every time I see these, I realize my childhood memories are just a suggestion.

50/50 basta con ver fotos promocionales de la época y darse cuenta como realmente era la película. Una corrección de color al 35mm y estamos

Peak Story

"Ah ha, Ah haaaaaaaaa, gimme that!!!"

I literally watched this movie today and I WISH I WOULDVE SEEN THIS OTHER ONE INSTEAD (I’ve seen the movie before)

The SLAP andy gives woody after buzz shoots the laser always kills me 😂😂

Why is the digital version so... Yellow

the gas station scene and even the scene where woody knocks buzz out of the window too. big lighting difference

I thought buzz shat his pants

Really nice comparison but respectfully I think the cleaner version just feels right. Yes I know most polished looks can seem bad for older movies but in this case I just like to see how much clearer the animation is for historical reference
