FINAL VICTORY FOR COOLOCK AGAINST REFUGEE CENTRE This morning, in agreement with local protest groups, construction started to develop the Crown Paints Coolock site for normal housing. Firm, unambiguous guarantees have been provided by the Gardaí and the owners that this will not be used for asylum seekers at... all. This brings to an end the multi-year standoff between residents and a former developer who was being paid massive amounts of tax-payer money to build a huge centre for thousands of unvetted, illegal immigrants. Members of the community have expressed their relief that they won in the end. 👋 Wonderful to meet the community of Barking this morning! The King and Queen visited the Barking Learning Centre Community and Family Hub. This community-based learning facility houses Barking Library and brings together a range of council services, and local groups. 💬 Their Majesties spent time with families and staff, who work at the centre to provide advice on employment, support those who are homeless, and encourage reading in the library.

🚨ASYLUM SEEKERS DESERVE MORE MONEY AND BETTER HOUSING🚨 Senedd members urged the Government to give asylum seekers more money and better housing. In a statement titled "Refugee Week: Wales a Nation of Sanctuary", Julie James said she was "frustrated" the request was ignored. The requests, made in 2018, provide further clarity on the purpose of the Nation of Sanctuary policy. James confirmed Welsh Government "advocated for increasing financial support for asylum seekers awaiting decisions, additional money for local authorities to support asylum seekers in their area and improved asylum accommodation standards". James condemned the Government for failing to increase the money paid to asylum seekers. "Unfortunately, to say the least, the UK Government does not appear to have incorporated our recommendations in the design of their forthcoming asylum accommodation contracts or significantly increased financial support in the asylum system," she said. "It is no secret that we are often frustrated by the UK Government's decisions in relation to asylum and migration matters," she added. James also criticised "negative effects" of what she considered hardline UK Government policies on asylum, and confirmed she planned to intervene. "We are continuing to consider improvements that we can make to support those seeking sanctuary, including looking at extending eligibility for education grants and concessionary transport to asylum seekers," she said. A request to ease the restrictions on asylum seekers' access to public money was also made. James claimed this was essential to integration and urged the Home Office "not to undermine this intention by placing Welsh Government funding streams on the list of prohibited public funds in the immigration rules". James' statement was preceded by a performance by "Oasis", a Welsh Government funded choir for asylum seekers. She urged colleagues to demonstrate to them that "Wales, a small nation, punches above its weight when it comes to providing sanctuary". Senedd members have, in the past few weeks, placed significant emphasis on the term "integration", claiming this is the real purpose of the Nation of Sanctuary policy. I have received numerous complaints from Irate residents who are deeply distressed that no Easter celebration messaging has been erected at Stockland Shopping Centre Merrylands. Local residents have asserted to me that when they have contacted centre management in regard to this matter, they have received various responses from centre management staff ranging from claiming ignorance and being unaware of why Easter messaging is not displayed in the centre to we are a diverse community. Yesterday afternoon I conducted a walk through of Stockland Merrylands Shopping Centre and could not identify any Easter messaging. The apparent segregation of the Christian community is disgraceful and should be called out. Australia is a Western Democratic country with Christianity being identified as the main religion with roughly 43.9% of the population identifying as Christian. This kind of behaviour is most unacceptable and needs to be called out. I have written to Stockland Shopping Centre Merrylands asking for a response in regard to this most serious matter. Celebrating one faiths traditions and excluding another in particular Christianity causes nothing but division and resentment within local communities. It is the responsibility of community leaders and major businesses to bring people together not sow division with woke policies that exclude the majority of our community in fear of offending minority groups.

They exercised legal powers under the Local Government (Sanitary Services) Act 1948 and the Local Government Reform Act 2014. The Prohibition Order takes 14 days to formally take effect, during which time it can be legally challenged by the State. Surprisingly, the emergency planning exemptions for refugee centres do not override the statutory powers of local councillors from the 1948 Act. This legal tool can be used by councils across the country to challenge the placement of temporary dwellings, giving local representatives the power to act if their communities have concerns. But despite the Prohibition Order, work on the site has not stopped. The State will challenge this aggressively, but it offers a glimmer of hope for local authorities. A big shout-out to Cllr. Just after completing their village road, in Amamputu, Uli, KCEE and Emoney have flagged off the construction of a Health Centre in the village. The Health Centre reconstruction design features an ultra-modern facility to serve the 5 kindreds in Amamputu. I recall that the last time the Health Centre was operational was under Peter Obi. Since he left, the village has been without a functional health Centre. KCEE and Emoney equally offloaded 200 bags of 25kg rice for the villagers, while empowering many with finances to support their businesses. This is what real impact and giving back to society mean!✍️
