YOUR EXPERIENCE DOESNT HAVE TO BE COLORISM TO BE VALID

People are missing THAT point

Had to repeat it for the birds in BACK

@SomaKazima2 🤣👏🏾 it’s crazy bc the same light skins trying to claim colorism are the same ones that said it didn’t exist 🤦🏾♀️like weren’t they just invalidating darkskin women’s experiences?😭

@SomaKazima2 Clock ittttt

I love when ppl use their brains

SAME

@reMARQable_ But unfortunately the comments are still showing how people dumb as fuck

@reMARQable_ Exactly why I'm not entertaining it lol words have meaning & I'm not teaching anyone lol

I follow her on TikTok she’s so smart

@boobsandbindis She is!

Don’t let Queen Naija see this

@jxalexander1 😭😭😭

Darker skinned women are negatively affected by colorism. Lighter skinned women benefit from colorism. Yes both light and darker skinned women are negatively impacted by racism because they’re racially Black but that’s not what colorism is about.

She’s absolute correct. I hate when ppl try to change the definition of words. Colorism by definition is discrimination against those with DARKER skin tones.

Reverse colorism is real…doja cat and Drake are 2 examples

No

This is some dumb shit. On so many levels. People love to focus on our differences and that’s a big part of the problem with escaping this bs. Light skins are just as dark as anybody else when they get followed around the store or pulled over by assholes. Their names sound the same on job applications. One could say they face additional challenges because darker skins can be racist to them too—not that it doesn’t go both ways. Lame watching this and thinking it’s anything other than sowing even more division.

Reverse colorism may not be a thing but “Bias”towards light skin black people is extremely normalized/prevalent today esp on this app

They both are this up

I love the way she put it too… cuz it’s a problem but def ain’t colorism 😭😭😭 I’ve gone thru my own family/school drama as a mixed child but compared to being dark skin… sickening the way people will treat them and is a crime

I watched this whole thing when it dropped & sis with the locs dropped facts & knowledge the whole video. I loved it

Colorism goes both ways with us light skin and us dark skin or chocolate, WE all can make fun of light skin but when a light skin person say something about a chocolate person in the same Concept it’s oh you being colorist when , yall both being colorism and mean to yo own race

The last woman got it right: any traumatizing experience is valid and should be discussed. In certain situations, the type of experience doesn't need to be explicitly labeled for it to valid. Trauma is trauma, no matter how you dress it up, and each experience matters.

told a friend years ago that us being called “light bright” or “honeybun” is not the same as being called a “tar baby”… that conversation took awhile

“Your experience doesn’t have to be colorism to be valid”🤏🏾🤏🏾🤏🏾🤏🏾

Colorism is just colorism. There is no such thing as reverse colorism.

Those pesky facts again, discrimination based on skin tone can go both ways 😎

No.

Classic case of confirmation bias. Hard to discuss facts if you stick to logical fallacy, buttercup

@SomaKazima2 The definition YOU posted doesn’t even agree with you, that’s the crazy part.

@SomaKazima2 Then you need a reading comprehension test before you continue discussing this subject.

@SomaKazima2 Nah I hear what you’re saying…but the discussion was on colorism…not shadeism. Though, closely related, not the same thing and has literally two different effects.

@SomaKazima2 Colorism exists between varying shades of skin tone grouped by the same race…let’s remember we cannot use the word while defining the word

Not really, low iq made up shit right there 😂 also the first lady a man

@summerhaze13 0/10 rage bait

I don’t particularly care but a lot of brown/dark skin women loudly and proudly proclaim they dont date or like light skin men. No one says a thing. Flip the script there are think pieces galore. I find that interesting. Ironically Most light skin men defend Blackness the most.

She doesn’t understand how colorism works

I'm kind of confused tho because if not colorism, what is that called when someone darker than me calls me Light Bright, Sunny, Rainbow Bright, Lemonade, Redbone, High Yella? I used to call it shadism myself. Is that not what colorism means? Serious questions 🙏

I’ve fully unsubscribed from this conversation. It was annoying 10 years ago and it’s still annoying now.

And they are both right, love smart people

So what is it called if not colorism? Because prejudice or bias against someone for having a lighter shade exists. Saying a person is not "Black enough " purely for being lighter exists. Discrimination against people with lighter skin tones by darker-toned people exists.

lol lightskin black folk absolutely experience discrimination and prejudice because of skin tone, not just because of blackness by ALL communities. just cuz yall wanna invalidate their experiences doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist 😂😂😂

So saying someone isn’t blk enough isn’t colorism but if people say u not light enough it’s colorism, or am I missing something

Every light skin man on this app will tell you how much we get knocked for being light skin. Black women tell us with no remorse how much they prefer dark skin men over us. But we suppose to just grin and bear it. Say you prefer a light skin woman and all hell breaks loose.

I wish people would stop adopting this mindset. It’s colorism period. Yes acknowledge that there are obvious levels to it and she may not be getting the worst of the worst. That doesn’t make it not colorism.

Lighter black complexions get the most shitted on in the blk community and 2 be specific it's always with the females.

So whats the difference between colorism and reductionism?? They’re both reducing a black person based on their skin color

Light skin black ppl experience colorism & racism too, is there an argument to be made that darker skin tone ppl experience it more often or in some cases to a higher degree? Yes but that doesn’t eliminate the fact it happens to light skin ppl. Debating this accomplishes nothing.

I think we could end this convo if both lightskins and Darkskins realized that being lightskin has absolutely nothing to do with “proximity to whiteness” you need at least one darkskin/brownskin parent to produce light brown skin. Being lighter has nothing to with whiteness and..
