Finally played Skynet for the first time, and I'm kinda impressed. A highly ambicious FPS for it's time with HUGE open-world areas, that rewards exploration. The pacing is non-existent, but otherwise it's really cool and can be pretty hardcore at times. Also, FMV cutscenes! 🫶

I loved how you could search in the buildings I also found the Saturday night fever Easter egg in the game

Yeah, entering basically any building in the open world areas is kinda crazy. It was a nice surprise for me.

SkyNet was one of the first multiplayer games you could play over and there was a little red dot that would show the other players where you were. It was a very suspenseful intense game, very fun at the time.

great game, at the start of the first level, there is a fence you can hop/glitch over and enter the never ending world. very trippy and cool to explore.

On the same engine that powered The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall.

It's a T-600 model. From a distance, it looks like a human, but up close you can tell the difference.

That game is a forgotten gem. Just watchout, you can die from random ledges and angled walls.

Yeah, the geometry is the toughest enemy in the game. 😄

FutureShock and Skynet are so dope for their time. I used to replay them so many times. I personally much preferred FutureShock's levels/story but I forget why.

I've played through the Skynet demo about 100 times on a demo disc when I was a child, but I've only just tried the full game. And I can't believe what I've been missing...

Hadn't heard of this game, in which case I usually I like to play 'guess the age.' I guessed 1997 for this one (I see it's actually '96), which I suppose means it looks technically impressive to me as well. Good stuff!

It was one of the first LAN PVP games with vehicular combat. My friends and I would play it for hours.

Every game felt like a collectors edition. And we didn't even realize how good it was for us until it was over.

It really was fun. The box for Spear of Destiny and Dark Forces still gives me chills. The Windows 95 launch was so exciting. Bill Gates was the cool computer nerd back then. I really miss it.

And you start with a reasonable set of weapons for once!!

Фото профиля Bánk B. Varga -- Mutant gamedev troubadour
Bánk B. Varga -- Mutant gamedev troubadour8 дней назад

Well, you can grab 70% of the weapons on the first level. 😁 Which was strange for me, not gonna lie. I expected a bit more structure, but the game basically just throw you in to a (controlled) sandbox and let you play. (it's not bad, but as I said, it has no pacing at all)

yeah and the multiplayer was awesome. you could fly the HK's and drive the jeeps mounted with the laser cannon.

I have the original game CD and the box somewhere, played it through when it was new. :) Fun facts: if you have the first game in a cracked version this CD has the FMVs for that game as well, if I remember correctly, and you can play the cracked w FMVs. Also, shoot the moon.

You could drive a car too in this one, if I remember well

Фото профиля Bánk B. Varga -- Mutant gamedev troubadour

Not just a car, but also an aircraft. The veichle sections kinda suck to be honest, but you can't deny the charm and of coure the crazy ambition about them.

I wish there was a source port for it that allowed you to play it at the same frame rates as Duke 3D, Doom or Quake in the modern era. I remember in native SVGA mode it ran erratically with those frames per second on even fast cards.

Needs a Nightdive remaster, not sure why they haven't picked it up (probably a rights issue).

This is a title I would have loved to see Adapted for the Sega Saturn hand in hand Lobotomy Software Inc. With efficiency in stability of FPS That would be the best

Didn't play Skynet only the first one: Future Shock. Also ambitious, and really buggy xD Can you still shoot the moon?

Фото профиля Bánk B. Varga -- Mutant gamedev troubadour

Skynet is basically remade Future Shock (you can play it from the menu), so its both a sequel and a remake. It's still pretty buggy but not as much as the origi FS was.

One of the best multiplayer games, ever, period. Flying in HKs, Terminator characters that could track through walls, cool burned out cityscape maps. I lugged my big ass CRT monitor to my friend's apartment so many times for LAN parties to play it.

I mean... Resistance kinda close. I know, it's not a full-blown RPG, but on the hardest diff it's a really decent semi-open world (x360 era feeling) soft-rpg shooter.
