People on IPPs get their sentences reviewed every year to see if they are safe for release. If they get knocked back it’s because those responsible are not convinced.

Why do we have so many people convicted of purely financial crime taking up prison places which could be available for violent and dangerous individuals? Surely it is preferable to tag those guilty of fraud or tax evasion, for example, and make them work to repay their victims?

Research has suggested that for over 20 years. It seems prison is the only answer for the public. Alternatives often have better outcomes for non-dangerous offenders.

IPP has only been scrapped in name only. For years we've seen the state loosening the definition of Terrorism paired with creeping expansion of Counter-Terrorism and surveillance powers. Hiking up petty offences with frivolous Terror "connections" is a dirty tactic alive & well.

Is Sally eyeing him up ?

Also a reminder that rushed law making usually means badly written with too many opportunities for abuse, and so gets instant headlines and long term injustices

Try and get your hashtag right eh.

@grok what is the background to Marc Conway receiving an IPP sentence?

“Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me “saying comes to mind tht all waffle words but it’s the action ppl want to see happen.
