[WATCH] ON THE MIGRATION MATTER At the end of June, forces under an anti-immigrant banner set out to shut down parts of our country and to sow mayhem. Let us report plainly: they were contained, and the shutdown they promised did not break the back of the Republic. But there was a cost to the good name South Africa has built since 1912. The organisers and funders must understand: they are eroding our standing as a safe home for the tourist and the investor, and isolating us from our own continent and when South Africa stands alone, it will not succeed. We see the patterns for what they are: the agent provocateur, the cheap mob politics of the ballot-chaser, and the poison of ethno-nationalism that would break this country apart. The enforcement of our laws is the work of the State, and of no one else. The authorities have effected some seventy-two thousand deportations of persons here unlawfully — diligent work, yet still under a tenth of the estimated total, a presence that does depress the wages of our workers and the tax base of our services. And we direct a firm word to the employer: the one who knowingly hires the undocumented to work them harder and pay them less is not only breaking the law that employer is depressing wages, starving the fiscus, and sabotaging the economy and the peace of our communities. The exploiter of cheap and unlawful labour is as much the author of our tensions as any smuggler at the border. To our own people we say: be wary of the radicalisation trap. Do not be drawn into public disorder and vigilantism, which earn you a police cell while the true causes of your hardship go untouched. Take your grievance to the ballot, not the streets. For the pressure at our borders is, at root, a continental crisis of economies under strain, of conflict, and of climate shock. A continental problem asks for a continental answer. I am the Director of the White House Office of Extraterrestrial Affairs. In 2024 this government completed the most thorough search for extraterrestrial life in human history. We checked the sky. We checked the files. We declassified the saucers. The verdict came back: nothing. No life out there. Not one. So I closed the telescope. I opened the window. I pointed it at a Home Depot. Three million by lunch. The trick was always the word. *Alien* had been sitting in the science fiction aisle for sixty years and we were too shy to use it in a press release. The dehumanization was already written. It was just shelved under Fantasy. This year I moved it to Policy. Same word. New department. My department. I should explain the jurisdiction, because there are two of us and we do not speak. Down the hall is the Department of War. It used to be the Department of Defense, but defense sounded woke, so we changed the name for two billion dollars, half of it letterhead. They renamed it back to what it was in 1789, before someone noticed in 1949 that the old acronym, N-M-E, sounded too much like *enemy.* We have now re-adopted the name they abandoned for sounding like the thing it does. I find this clarifying. The signage alone is seven hundred thousand buildings. We are spending a billion dollars on new doors so the doors can say War.
