finding a good pen is all about figuring out which qualities you like, but IMO the best are fountain pens for the writing experience and potential for line variation and shading

My father was a lifelong fountain pen man!

Couldn’t agree more, Derek.

Oh great. Derek resurfaced memories of my calligraphy teacher judging my penmanship 😞

Look out, it’s pen guy!!

Pilot Vanishing Point are great everyday fountain pens

Platinum #3776 in F-Nib is my all time favorite way to write. Even different ink types and manufacturers affect writing experience.

My grandad taught me copperplate hand that he’d learned at school in 1914 🙂

What do you reccomend for a first serious fountain pen?

My daily is a Pilot 823, but it's pricey if you're just getting into fountain pens. For something affordable, try Lamy Safari, TWISBI Eco, Kaweco Sport, or Pilot Metropolitan. Get a fine nib and paper that can take a fountain pen. Look up Goulet Pen's guides on YouTube.

Unless you’re left handed …. Sigh
