I remember when orders came out at our training unit. Everyone is getting Germany, Japan, Hawaii. She got FT Polk, she cried and everyone was consoling her. TBF getting Polk would have near made me cry.

So cooler than when I was in tech school. We just got a piece of paper and then went to look on the map to find out where the bases were. My one friend from Baltimore got Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. He was angry. I got Okinawa. Only person in my class to go overseas..

Went there 3 times on TDYs. Total of about 18 days. Beautiful. A memory. Me and 2 buddies asked the hotel clerk where to find a dance club. Not good English. Used body language and said, GIRLS!! He said, ohhhh girls! You go back to your rooms, I make call, they come!

The military sure has changed since I was in. I got the news via teletype and carbon copy orders. “Be in Maryland by next month — see ya”.
