First and last video played on MTV

"We can't rewind we've gone too far". Why does that sound so accurate these days. Almost ominous.

I wish @elonmusk had bought MTV and had it play music videos 24/7

That's Sophie Grey, along with Trevor Horn. Here's the complete (very cute) video. Listen for Trevor's comment right before he heads offstage.

I was 15 in 1981, school let out, my best friend and I walked to her house, walked to the TV, turned it on and discovered MTV! I remember it vividly and with pure nostalgic glee. 😊🎶

Gen. X remembers. . .

I was convinced this was a robot. She doesn't look or move like a human.

most of us know it from here GTA VC 😂

And I watched the first live!!!! We didn’t have cable! I had to go into town to a friends house that had cable mtv! N HBO!!!!Boy o boy, he had it all!

The appropriate response from this group whom outlasted MTV.

"They took the credit for your second symphony. Written by machine on new technology" ... wow ... that hits hard now with AI. Warned us all the way back in 81.

🎶Internet killed the music video channel🎶 🎶Internet killed the music video channel🎶 🎶Internet killed the music video channel🎶

Videos are gone but the radio lives on.

So sad. I don’t know how this icon couldn’t keep going.

Here's what happened

That was back when MTV was worth watching.

Headbangers Ball was peak MTV

We know who kept the lights on....

Anyone else feel a few nostalgia tears brew when that Buggles track comes on? Gets me everytime

It is hard to have any feelings about MTV that are positive after the station abandoned music 20-25 years ago.

The 1981 is not the original video. Looks like some pseudo live performances thing. Here’s the correct music video.

It should have said the first and last SONGS. These are not the actual videos that were played.

MTV Classic still plays great music videos.

I Used To Love MTV When I When I Was A Teenager & They Played Music Videos All Day & Night From Bands Like Nirvana, Guns N Roses, Stone Temple Pilots, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Bush, 311, Sublime, Beastie Boys, Rage Against The Machine, Tool, Etc. #ButItTurnedTo💩.

La señal latinoamericana abrió sus transmisiones con el videoclip de "We are Sudamerican Rockers" de #LosPrisioneros. No tengo certeza si sigue activa la señal latina, ni mucho menos si aún transmite videos musicales.

From mtv im love music, found my passion to graphic design, and from graphic design i found my wife.. thankyou MTv 🥰

Circling back to this song was the most correct thing MTV did for years - I'll never understand why "Music Television" stopped showing music, and kept it's name...

And these assholes killed the video star.

I saw that first video when it aired. Never saw the last one.

The last one was the same musik video as the first one and NOT the cover from Sophie Grey. Besides, she needs more probs for her efforts of getting a pop star 💃

Buggles keyboard player Hans Zimmer

@grok tell us more about that 2025 performance of Video killed the radio Star.
