While the agency has launched traceback investigations, it has not provided any information on the source of the parasite or the outbreak location. Messaging around these outbreaks has been confusing and health experts say that’s in part because of the difficulty in tracking the parasite, which also can’t be reproduced in a lab. The previous major outbreak, focused in Michigan and four surrounding states, has been linked to shredded iceberg lettuce sold by Taylor Farms and grown in central Mexico, though that’s not been confirmed through lab testing. People all over the U.S. and the U.K. are experiencing a heavy fog situation, but what separates this from regular fog is that people are saying that they are feeling sick after coming in contact with the fog. Fog is normal at this time of year, but people do not get sick from fog.
