ALERT: Police deploy a drone to track down suspects who allegedly robbed 2 retail stores. Fresno Police received a call from Dick’s Sporting Goods that 2 suspects had stolen items from the store by concealing them in their clothes before taking off in a grey Honda Pilot. Police promptly launched the unnamed drone and were able to track down the car and follow it before officers arrived and stopped the vehicle. A 39-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman were detained, and police later found out they had robbed a second Dick’s store earlier that morning. This is the first high-profile arrest attributed to Fresno Police Chief Mindy Casto’s newly announced “Drone as First Responder” program. Both suspects now face grand theft charges.

Saturday was another gorgeous day at Salisbury Canyon Ranch. At full scale, Salisbury Canyon Ranch spans roughly 136 football fields and will produce enough oil one person high every day for 10 million years. The opening shot shows the first 65 acres (approximately 2.8 million square feet) of cannabis currently in production. We are about two months into the season, and these plants are expected to be ready for harvest in roughly four weeks, and will run through our extraction lines in Q3. Next, I hike up the hill for an overhead view of the phase two expansion project, which will add an additional 115 acres (approximately 5.0 million square feet), and for the 2027 season we will run our full 180-acre (approximately 7.8 million square feet) permit. The strategy is simple: grow clean cannabis at approximately $8 per pound, run more of it through our extraction facilities, and continue driving higher margins and better products. $LEEF $LEEEF

Beginning Thursday, Sept. 10, 2026, 2 Skydio X10 drones will be deployed to select incidents in northeast & southeast Calgary. The drones will provide responding members with real-time aerial information to help them better understand unfolding incidents & determine the most appropriate response. 💬 “The Drone as First Responder model has been successfully implemented by other police agencies & has shown potential to enhance emergency response. This trial will help us determine how the technology can support public safety in Calgary by providing responding officers with valuable information about an incident, often before they arrive on scene.” — Supt. Jodi Gach of the CPS Operational Support Division. The drones are deployed from a secure location in northeast Calgary. When an eligible call for service is identified, a sworn CPS member trained as a drone pilot can remotely deploy a drone to the scene. In some cases, the drone may arrive before responding officers, providing an early view of the incident that can help members identify risks, locate individuals & make informed operational decisions. While we have used drones for several years to support public safety operations, including emergency incidents, searches & investigations, DFR introduces a new deployment model that allows drones to respond directly to select calls for service & provide information during the early stages of an incident. ℹ️ The use of drones for the trial has been approved by Transport Canada. Russian sources allege the aircraft was shot down, but Ukrainian statements describe the circumstances as under investigation, with no official confirmation of the cause. There are unverified Russian claims linking it to a modified Geran-2 drone equipped with an R-60 missile. Ukrainian intelligence has confirmed the existence of Geran-2 variants armed with R-60 air-to-air missiles, designed primarily to counter aircraft or helicopters approaching to intercept drone swarms. If independently verified, such an engagement could represent a significant milestone in drone-vs-manned aircraft combat. This development aligns with broader trends i mentioned in my previous article on Chinese high-altitude drones conducting air-to-air target acquisition from positions well above potential threats. Elon Musk has indeed argued that the future of warfare lies with unmanned aircraft, stating that manned fighter jets are becoming obsolete in the drone era and predicting a shift toward autonomous or remotely controlled systems. But i believe that it’s something to the next two decades. Sixth-generation aircraft concepts often emphasize manned platforms controlling swarms of drones (loyal wingmen), but the question pushes further: How will manned fighters compete against high-altitude unmanned systems operating 10–15 km above their service ceiling and potentially launching air-air hypersonic missiles? In January I will post an article on China's development of layered high-altitude drone systems for ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition, and Reconnaissance), one optimized for aerial threats and another for naval targets. Recent Chinese programs, like high-altitude stealth drones, recharge stations and mothership concepts capable of deploying swarms, suggest active progress in this direction.
