First look at the app

Random thought: if ppl like me invest $60 into the hardware we will be willing to figure out a slightly less intuitive but more aesthetically pleasing UI, so you could easily swap out the "Block" text in the middle of the ring for a circle or a "stop" square SVG

Totally agree. The original idea was more artistic, just the circle, no text, two states to show focus and non-focus. I quickly realized it wasn’t clear enough. Had to find a middle ground that works for anyone, not just people who live on the internet. Tried an icon version too, didn’t feel right either. Will keep exploring, want to bring back some minimalism without losing clarity

Maybe if you do stick with text it could feel more branded? Perhaps same font/all caps like the title up top or a different identity font. Maybe even some inner shadow on the text so it feels etched into the circle. 🤔

I think you could definitely get away with removing the pill around the text since the whole circle is the tap target anyway

what justifies the hardware?

The physical barrier aspect! Having to scan really holds you back, even more so if you place the disc away from you, it adds friction to the act of unlocking your blocked apps
